ice-capades
FYI... Our dealership has 2 retail orders for 2016 Mustangs. When we met with our Ford rep a few weeks ago they offered us no 2016 Mustang allocation for the "Balance Out" scheduling. We asked for allocation in order to get the two retail orders scheduled but didn't get it. Our Ford rep was going to see if other dealers in our zone had allocation that they would give up to us but so far it doesn't look good. The retail orders are for a 2016 Mustang EcoBoost Premium Fastback (Triple Yellow w/Black Leather/Automatic) & 2016 Mustang V6 Fastback (Triple Yellow w/6-Speed Manual). The EcoBoost Premium is for a 75 year old that has owned 3 Mustangs and wanted the car for the summer and because of the color it's not a car we can easily get from another dealership. The other car being a base V6 Muistang w/6-Speed Manual was always going to be a problem because of the extremely limited production for the V6, let alone a vehicle with the 6-Speed Manual. Further adventures to follow!
fuzzymoomoo
V6 manual transmission is basically a unicorn. I see maybe 1 every 2-3 weeks on the line That combo on a convertible is even rarer. The only one I've seen since I've been here was 2 weeks ago and it was ruby red.

fuzzymoomoo
I don't know exactly how allocation is decided, but you have to remember, there's a set date for the end of 2016 production which is only moved based on any plant breakdowns. There's only a finite amount of orders available in the order bank once the buildout phase begins.
akirby
Crazy, I thought Ford was in the business to sell cars!!! You would think retail orders would trump allocation... Allocation applies to all orders both retail and dealer stock. It doesn't mean they're losing a sale - it means they're selling every mustang they can build and they are all spoken for by other dealers and exports. ice-capades
Received word from our Ford representative today that she was able to get allocation for our retail 2016 Mustang EcoBoost Premium for the 75 year old retiree. Doubtful that we'll get allocation for the retail V-6 due to the limited availability.
danglin
Good to hear the retiree got his ordered! :happy feet:
ice-capades
Update... The retiree's 2016 Mustang is scheduled for production on April 4th! With any luck the car will ship promptly and he'll have his new Mustang by early May.
ice-capades
Update... The retail order for our customer's 2016 Mustang V6 Fastback w/6-Speed Manual was scheduled yesterday for production the week of May 2nd!
mrblanche
We ordered a triple yellow V6 with manual on 3/31 and have a 2016 VIN, so I hope it gets built soon. Didn't know we were ordering a unicorn...but I guess that's sort of a horse, isn't it?

If a customer places a special order, I dont quite understand why it matters which dealer they go through. All should be prioritized the same. Dealer allocation should only really be based on ability to sell cars that would otherwise sit on the lot.

All should be prioritized the same. Dealer allocation should only really be based on ability to sell cars that would otherwise sit on the lot. I think part of the problem is that some dealers would use fake orders to get allocation for dealer stock that they would not normally be entitled to. However, Ford has done this in the past (schedule retail orders outside normal dealer allocation) for some vehicles.
