Ford 2015 Production

Highlights are

 

1. Combined F Series production was over 950,000

 

2. Combined Fusion production was over 333,000 - up from 277,000 in 2014..

 

3. Escape production was 383,703 from one plant including MKC production of 37,376

I didn't realize they were able to make that many Escapes, even with MKC limitations. MKC moving out could mean ~421,000 units of Escape.

 

Interesting that both Taurus and Explorer production increased compared to 2014 (Taurus had a larger percentage gain as well), even though we often discuss how they limit Taurus production for Explorer production.

 

Also, they've apparently made 20 Continentals already haha.

Those 20 continentals are line trials (EPT phase). They were still figuring out how to build the damn thing! It's really complicated. They're in the TT phase and they're still figuring out how to build it.

I don't know exactly, but talking to my team leader who is working with the launch team on it right now, there's a few things. There's a LOT more parts (like 6 different interior colors), those parts fit together a lot tighter than those of the Mustang and Fusion (it is a Lincoln after all, so that's to be expected), and they're still working bugs out of the process. The last to builds we did last week, the doors were built off line. That should tell you something right there. Lots of kinks to work out from now to launch in a few months.

Oh I figured that. I've just not seen production figures broken out like that before, especially including a new vehicle like that, so I think it's interesting to see that they include the trials as produced units, as well as how many they've made.

I *think* they legally have to. Emphasis on think, because now I'm just taking a wild guess.

Well, hopefully they get everything figured out (I'm sure they will). The last thing Lincoln needs is quality issues. Reviewers I'm sure are itching to find anything to put it down (though, regardless, I'm sure they'll find some nitpicking thing that would be just a "characteristic quirk" that's easily overlooked in a German vehicle, but will be some huge issue that makes the Continental a failure).

 

Re: Taurus production,

 

I wonder how much of the additional production is for PI units, and not civilian units.

 

Good point - I noticed they didn't break it down into PI and PIU production, those were just lumped into Taurus and Explorer numbers.

From what I understand, this is all normal new model launch stuff. I've never witnessed this process first hand before (not for an ALL new model) as when I first started at MAP, I missed the Focus ST and C-Max launches by a few months and I don't count 2015 Focus MCE because not a whole lot of changes to the process were needed. From what I understand in talking to coworkers, S550 had similar experiences to what D544 is going through right now. It's all interesting to watch play out first hand.

Oh I can't even imagine the complexity of making an all new vehicle. I watch the show "How It's Made: Dream Cars" and some of the stuff they have to do to make some of these cars is impressive. But it makes me wonder how long it takes workers to adjust to a new vehicle, new steps, processes, etc.

Some more than others for sure. Then there are others who have yet to master a single job on their own. It's maddening sometimes. I'm going to shut up about this particular subject before I go on a rant....

And guys you are right about Taurus and Explorer production, those figures include the LEVs.

 

So no wonder Explorer and Taurus production is over 286K and 74K respectively

but add 7K MKS to that and CAP is really humming at over 360K of D3 product..

 

Even combined Focus and C-Max production is still well over 260K.

 

And for anyone interested, Ford managesd to sell over 10K of Ranger in Mexico

or about 75% of combined F Series sales there.

 

It absolutely killed Colorado down there which only sold a few thousand units......
