Cadillac is set to expand its utility vehicle lineup with up to three new crossover models by the end of the decade. Cadillac's CUV onslaught is set to kick off in 2018.

The first in a wave of new utility models for the Cadillac brand will be a compact vehicle aimed at the likes of the Lexus NX and BMW X3. According to Cadillac president Johan de Nysschen, the sub-XT5 model will arrive in 2018. Although de Nysschen didn't reveal what the new model would be called, it's largely assumed that it will adopt the XT4 nameplate.

Additionally, de Nysschen says Cadillac will address the "obvious gap" between the recently unveiled XT5 and the larger Escalade. "I think a very well-executed, three-row crossover could fit in quite nicely," he told Automotive News on the sidelines of the recent Los Angeles auto show. "It's an important segment with a lot of volume."

That new model, which will line up against the Audi Q7 and Volvo XC90, should be ready for a market launch in either 2018 or 2019.

Lastly, Cadillac is rumored to be working on a small utility vehicle in the same mold as the Audi Q3 and BMW X1. Timing for that model is unknown at this time.

XT2 B-segment SUV (Gamma III platform)

XT4 C-segment SUV (Delta III D2xx platform)

XT5 D-segment SUV (SWB Chi C1xx platform)

XT7 E-segment SUV (LWB Chi C1xx platform)

XT9 Escalade SUV (GMT K2xx platform)

I'd say they'd be XT1 and XT3 rather than XT2 and XT4.

Nor do I see Escalade getting an XT9 designation.
