IUAW Hits Home Run in Chrysler Agreement

The membership put this second tentative agreement in place with their vote.

If they would have fallen for the "take it or leave it" sales pitches at their locals by the IUAW and Local Rep`s it would have been the first tentative agreement, and the IUAW would have loaded their guns and headed to Ford and GM.

The highest authority finally did their job. I applaud those lower seniority tier two members that stood together with the higher seniority tier one members and said enough is enough. Their straight forward stance is the only true sign of solidarity that I have seen in a long time.

They did us at Ford a favor by pushing back on not only the company but the very leadership that works for all of us. I can just imagine the "take it or leave it speeches" that would have come out of the mouths of the Ford Department.... if this wasn`t turned down by the sisters and brothers at FCA. Thank G-d these on this board that thought the first tentative agreement was good (?) was only 30% of the mind set at FCA.

I just hope the Ford sisters and brother can follow the lead of the FCA members and carry on with solidarity and strength to send another message to the Ford National Dept.

Thank you sisters and brothers at FCA for showing that being sheep or having blind obedience is not the true union ideology.

If your coming to our local Jimmy bring the good stuff with you and just leave the bullshit under your thrown.

I believe the IUAW got all they could-- Enter the 2 to 1 vote going down = Solidarity getting sergio off his stupid shit and getting the leverage the IUAW needed

Love my Union !!!

yea, i'm sure sergio got nothing in return....lol... it would seem like a good deal for chrysler, but they will not see the FINE print until it's passed, and thats a shame. but thats how the uaw democracy works..i guess. the membership can't even vote for the uaw president. just think if thats how we elect presidents in the USA? not very democratic to me.

The people you elect are supposed to be your voice, vote in new people if you don't like who is there now.

You can't have all UAW members vote on who is the union president, smaller locals from other parts of the country may have a great leader and if no one in the big 3 knows of him because he's at a smaller place in the middle of no where that person would never have a shot.

It's wise to have the elected officials make that choice as they know who is who.

It's up to us to make sure we keep local officials honest and in check by letting them know any nonsense and you will not be reelected.

Go ahead everyone scream about the corruption and you know better.

Make the system work for you, don't let it work you.

A raise is great if you still have a job. In the Detroit area, this contract calls for a cut of 750 jobs when the Ram truck moves from Warren to Sterling Heights, and calls for the Patriot/Compass, Dart, and 200 to be moved to Mexico- a total of about 400K= Units of production. A lot of T2s are ecstatic about the raises they earned as they should be, but raises are worthless if your job is going to be cut.

Why would the company buy somebody out if the new person will eventually be at top pay?

Because a "new" person, tier 2's overall's package is a lot less then a legacy worker. No pension, different insurance package which cost the company less to insure them. So that's why they would offer buyouts to legacy workers...

Cost of health insurance for one. That savings plus getting say 500 st top wage off the payroll vs replacing them with a new 17 dollar an hour worker with half the benefits cost is big savings.

You figure if it was only 500 people now for 8 years that top wage is off the books. This 8 year grow in was wise by FCA, they have all the metrics to work with while we can guess, it will allow their payroll to eventually plummet for 3-4 years before it starts going back up.

Plus consider the number of new hires that are above 45(a lot of them where I work) it won't take long for the average wage to drop into the low 20's over the course of two contracts.

The more I look at this the more it's garbage. The raises for legacy workers need to be a full 6% at ratification, not making you making you wait, you guys waited long enough 6% isn't going to hurt.

Those raises for newer people need to be front loade and have them dwindle down. Instead of 17, 18, 19.50, 22.00, etc it need to be 17, 19.50, 22, 24 then make them smaller at the end of the scale.

As some at the bottom end of the scale I'd be kind of pissed if the 4th year of the contract profits dropped by say 10% and the companies wanted to cry foul and put in another lengthy wage freeze for fear of financial trouble.

This seemed great at first but the deeper I dig into it the more it seems with more benefit for the company than the workers.
