Should UAW continue to support Democrats just because?

UAW and other unions should take a page out of the NRA playbook. Regardless of your views on gun control there is no question the NRA holds a big stick & sways elections. Many democrats run from their pet issue of Gun Control because it brings the pressure of the NRA on them & loses elections.

One bad vote on a gun issues and the NRA pulls you from their funding list. Make a major mistake on gun issues and you get pulled from their approved list & they bring major negative PR to bear on you. They do not keep blindly funding politicians because they have an R or a D next to their name. Politicians have to produce results for the NRA to get support. Why should the UAW be any different.

Why does the NRA continue to send money to candidates who sell us down the river? We not only vote for them but we support their elections. I say if they don't make a promise to oppose unfair trade deals we don’t support them. Screw the lesser of two evils approach. Look at NAFTA & GATT & NOW TPP. Look who was in the white house when they were pushed through.

If democrats won't back us then support independents that will. If we need a labor party in this country then let’s builds one, but it’s high time we make our voice heard. There are more than 18 million manufacturing jobs in the U.S. alone, plus all the retires and support jobs. Add in the non-manufacturing trades & their families & friends & that’s a lot of votes.

We need to make the candidates wake up.

Feel free to chime in with your opinion.

I don't intend this to be political, just a matter of fiscal responsibility on the part of the UAW and other unions that seem to be throwing money to the wind.

Does anyone else have ideas on how to protect manufacturing jobs? What can we do as a group to bring about change.

We should just absorb Mexico as part if the US.

Solves wages, immigration, and a few other issues in one shot.

This has been a bone of contention where I live. I'm very active in our county CAP and am a candidate as well. For far too long Labor has been a rubber stamp for the Democratic party and whereas that used to be beneficial to the UAW and Labor, it has now become a case of the Democrats taking Labor for granted and thinking they can dictate to us. They're very accommodating at election time but forget who you are afterwards....hence NAFTA, GATT and TPP....not to mention this so-called "cadillac tax" that, funnily enough, the politicians are exempt from. These are not the Democrats of our youth and of our fathers. We call this new breed pretendocrats and Demorats. We need to support those who support us. Bottom line.

The trade deal that was proposed today that is supported by Obama that removes the trade tariffs for cars built outside of the US by foreign car companies will be the death of the US auto industry.

Yes, but the US can sell 50,000 tons of rice because of this. Ship it all in F150s.

You want to blame Republicans? What party holds the presidency again? What administration negotiated the TPP?

I agree with you 100%

Exactly it was Obama that pushed for and supported the TPP..Uhh but they love the support of the unions..keep supporting them when the Ford starts building all their vehicles in Mexico and the only thing that's left here are the parts plants. Never say Never because this deal will be the death of the Big 3

Let me be clear, I'm not suggesting that Republicans did not vote for these trade deals. They tend to support them overwhelmingly. I'm just suggesting we should not be funding the elections of people (dems.) who turn around and sell us out. These trades deals would never have passed without Clinton & Obama. They sold us out after we gave millions to get them elected.

Lets find some people who will fight for us and support them and stop giving our hard earned money to people who will stab us in the back.

The same ones that oppose the XL pipeline for environmental concerns yet pumping oil thru a pipe is cleaner than trucking it or by rail.

So much for supporting union jobs and labor.
