No EcoBoost. 6.2L base engine. Fully boxed. New transmission but doesn't say which speed.
RichardJensen
Random details: * Frame is now fully boxed (I suspect this won't be the case with the cab/chassis models) * Available trailer mounted camera * Remote tailgate release
RichardJensen
Yep. C Channel for the cab/chassis: Chassis-cab models (F-350, F-450 and F-550) will have a flat, thick C-channel frame starting at the back of the cab and running the full length of the back end of the truck. fordmantpw
Still 6-speed tranny across the board, but a heavy-duty Torqshift-G for the gasser. Is the 6.2L getting a significant bump? While we don't know power and performance figures on the Super Duty, Ford says the engine lineup will remain the same, with a 6.2-liter gas V8, 6.8-liter gas V10, and 6.7-liter turbodiesel V8. All three are "improved and upgraded" according to Rathsburg, who wouldn't share further details. The 6.2-liter now comes with a heavy-duty version of Ford's six-speed Torqshift-G tranmission. (autoblog article) Is the 6.2L going to be F250 only? The 6.2-liter V8 gasoline engine comes equipped with the new TorqShift-G transmission for the F-250 pickup – allowing for improved capability. fordmantpw
I like the looks, though I think the non-LED headlights look better, crisper, cleaner. Interesting that the tranny is a 6 speed, and an updated one at that. That would lead me to believe that the 10 speed is a ways off yet. While all of the electronic goodies are cool (I especially like the camera you can put on the back of the trailer), I'm a bit disappointed. I think they could have gone further. And no EcoBoost? RichardJensen
I'm a bit disappointed. I think they could have gone further. And no EcoBoost? Average of 350lb weight savings across the board, switch to full aluminum body construction, and likely a pretty amazing bump up in trailer & payload ratings aren't doing it for you?* As to the lack of EB, that might be a capacity thing. There's no 3.5L EB in the Mustang either. *Basing that assumption on the weight savings (+350lbs to payload, towing), the stiffer fully boxed frame, and the improved engines (the 6.7L is being described as a 'second generation' model) Edited September 24, 2015 by RichardJensen

As to the lack of EB, that might be a capacity thing. There's no 3.5L EB in the Mustang either. I'm just bummed I didn't get my beefed up F150 version for the F250. Yes, the weight savings and likely greatly improved ratings are great, but I was hoping more for what they did with the F150. Lighten drastically and keep ratings close to what they were or up slightly. I mean, these are pickups, and we don't all need to tow 7,000,000 lbs! I just think there is a bigger gap between the F150 and the F250 than there should be. I was hoping the F250 would fill a gap between the F150 and F350. Give the F250 the treatment they gave the F150, but give the F350+ the treatment they gave the Super Duty. Make the F250 a 'different' truck than it's bigger brothers. Who knows, I will reserve final judgement until I see all the details. At any rate, I'm saving my pennies for an '18 or '19 F250. I will need that extra payload to haul them pennies to the dealer. Gas or diesel TBD. Oh, and no console shifter in the King Ranch? Come on!
Bryan1
A few more details here..... Using the F-150’s body has benefitted the Super Duty with up to 4 additional inches of cab length over the outgoing truck, resulting in a roomier cabin. The Super Duty also shares the dash and totally flat rear floor with its 1/2-ton brother, but it adds some unique storage solutions such as a two-tier glove box and dividable and locking rear underseat storage. fordmantpw
And they kept the Super Duty interior door handles. Yay! I LOVE them in my truck! Oh, and I do love the roomier cab. With 3 younguns, I've wished for more room in the back of the cab in my SD several times.

Yeah, the F-150 has those handles now as well (as of the 2015 redesign). --- After seeing more pictures, i like it more than after seeing the ones we were looking at earlier. The new cab definitely helps modernize the design.
fordmantpw
Yeah, the F-150 has those handles now as well (as of the 2015 redesign). I forgot they brought those to the F150. Sadly, I haven't been in one yet. After seeing more pictures, i like it more than after seeing the ones we were looking at earlier. The new cab definitely helps modernize the design. I agree with you. It really makes the current SD look outdated.

blwnsmoke
Just heard from my contact, says 10 speed will still be out for 2017, they are just not announcing it yet. They are running in a bunch of trucks right now. Won't be able to order till summer time.
02MustangGT
I have my doubts that Ford would withhold the fact the 10 speed will be available in 2017 SD. Now if we are talking 2017 F150, then yes, the 10 speed will be standard.
blwnsmoke
Why would they announce it almost a year before launch when they can surprise the competition close to launch? Makes sense to me with what he told me. Why don't they state the hp/to numbers now?? Because they don't want the competition knowing till last minute.. 02MustangGT
Devils advocate, why would they tout the upgraded 6 speed transmission? I hope I am wrong but I don't believe the 10 speed is coming to the SD for the 2017 model year.

ANTAUS
Can someone clarify the following "Well the cab is the same as the F150, but it's bigger"... Hmmm, then its NOT the same? In other words, if it's not interchangable, then don't call it "the same", when your then saying "Oh its bigger"... already read 2 reports on this. Pioneer
It's the same cab. It's bigger than the current Super Duty cab.
