twintornados
Has everyone noticed that Verizon changed their logo? They are merging the wireless division in with the rest of the company....the logo change alone is millions in new signage and letterhead but the employees represented by CWA and IBEW are working under an expired contact as Verizon refuses to negotiate a successor contract agreement and demands concessions from their employees....Unions are under attack and "Big Business" just keeps demanding more and more to "enhance investor value".....there has to be a balance between enhancing investor value and taking care of your most valuable asset...your employees. RangerM
The decision to consolidate the wireless operations with the other wired(?) operations was probably not made overnight--more likely years ago. Many of the traditional phone companies have been losing money the last few years. Verizon (not wireless), formerly known as "Bell Atlantic", is probably no different. My local phone company, Southern Bell (along with its cellular division, Cingular), was rolled into AT&T years ago. Can't speak of bad faith, except to say that businesses rely on share value to maintain operations, and if equity (total share value) goes down the cost of operations/financing goes up.
akirby
Working without a contract to extend negotiations is quite common with CWA and IBEW contracts and doesn't necessarily mean anything.
twintornados
Verizon is not negotiating and complains that it doesn't have the $$$ to settle a fair contract yet, they just bought AOL and now is changing the corporate logo?? Settle the contract and give your workers a decent benefit package without trying to grab the pension fund and strip away healthcare plans. RayoVac
I keep hearing people say Verizon will eventually move all to GSM and get away from the non-standard CDMA based stuff. Does this seem like a reliable rumor?
