tarriver
Got 2016 f250 XL 6 July. Dealer said the tailgate was wrong? As it has the camera in the blue oval and was not suppose to be on the XL model. Anyway the camera is hooked up and fused at the fuse box. My question is, would the plug and wiring be in place under the front of the headliner so I could get a rear view mirror monitor, and hook it up?? The 2016 is same as 2015, I see no change at all. Thanks for response.

lkbrow1
From my 2011 experience, it's more complicated than that. There is software that seems to detect the video signal and turn the monitor on in the mirror. If your software has that disabled, too bad. I replaced the tailgate with a V tailgate for a 5th wheel and put a license plate holder with camera on and made a connector to plug into where the tailgate camera went. The video signal must be strong to work properly.
computergeek
The camera is on anytime the truck is on. I have an aftermarket indash stereo so I used the stock ford camera and can see it anytime. I think Pac Audio has an interface so you can add it to your stock unit.
