Cadillac SRX leaser moves to 2016 loaded Lincoln MKX. Thoughts?

Recommended Posts

Been a Cadillac SRX leaser for the past 6 years. Been happy with the vehicle, but after awhile, one grows tired of the brand and looks elsewhere.

Went to my local Ford dealer, which is only 1 mile from my home, and looked at the 2016 Lincoln MKX.

I have rented a Lincoln MKX in the past while traveling. I think they are very comfortable vehicles, but tend to have a little more plastic in place of luxury parts. Not a huge blemish, but coming from Cadillac, that is the first thing I noticed.

On the other hand, I am one of those hardcore audiophiles that was attracted to the brand due to the new 19-speaker Revel system. I am an audiophile and have been putting up with the lousy sound coming from the Bose speakers that GM puts in their vehicles.

The Lincoln seems to offer more luxury (comfort) than the Cadillac, though the biggest disappointment I have found is that Ford's MyTouch is included in their top-end model instead of the newer Sync 3. I don't have experience with MyTouch, but it kind of looks as if it falls short of Cadillac's CUE or BMW's iDrive systems.

I loaded the vehicle up. Went with the EcoBoost engine. Went with the top tier package. Added every luxury, safety and comfort package I could. By the time I was done, I had a vehicle that was slightly over $60k. My God, I could have leased a BMW X3 loaded for that price -- which would have been a better vehicle but not nearly as much gadgetry or comfort. Still, a BMW is a BMW.

I haven't taken possession of my Ruby Red 2016 MKX yet. It is being transported from another state. Will probably have it in a few days.

Am I having second thoughts? Yes. This is my first Ford. Doing research on the MKX, I read lots of complaints about the Ford MyTouch. I own an iPhone 6 and hope it works well with the system. Additionally, it seems that Ford manufacturing has gotten sloppy. Even on this forum I read posts about the lack of quality control on the assembly line. Last thing I want is to be locked into a leased vehicle with quality problems.

So, here I am on a MKX forum talking with other owners.

What are your thoughts on Lincoln vehicles, their quality, and the MKX? What do I have to look (or not) forward to?

Thank You

I mystery shop, and have test driven a lot of cars. I'd take the 2016 MKX over any BMW crossover. Hell, last year, I did a couple of decent test drives, about a good 30 minutes each, of the smaller MKC against the BMW X3 and the Mercedes GLA. MKC won, hands down. The BMW was not as comfortable, and the Lincoln had better ergonomics. The Mercedes should have called the Mercedes POS. Seriously.

Earlier this month, I shopped three Lincoln dealers, and took three different tests of the 2016 MKX, in three different parts of Metro Detroit, three different road conditions. You won't be disappointed, especially in the Ecoboost V-6. akirby is correct - MLT is intuitive and easy to use and get used to.

There isn't anything wrong with the current version of MFT - it works fine and it's intuitive after you spend a few minutes with it.

I think complaints about MFT are exaggerated, but I'd hardly say there isn't anything wrong with it.

I find it to be occasionally glitchy, and always slow, on my 2015 Edge.

It is intuitive tho.
