Iamhere
I have a 2015 Explorer with an ecoboost engine.First off i love this vehicle and was excited to purchase an ecoboost.my vehicle was an 25-mile drive unit and despite a catalytic converter failure at 15k miles i have had no issues. My question is have any other people in a cold weather enviroment noticed a marked drop off in gas milage when the weather turns cold. Its not a deal breaker for me but it is noticeable.I have had the unit back to the dealership,no ODC codes were present and no one can explain to me why there is a mvery noticeable drop in fuel milage in the winter. akirby
Simple - winter fuel blends. Summer fuel blends have additives to prevent evaporation that yield better fuel economy than the winter blends.

rscalzo
Winter fuel blends and the cold weather makes the engines less efficient. Seemed odd to me at first because I would have tought the colder air was denser but it didn't matter. Yet the oil temps are thinker and create more friction to some degree. https://www.fueleconomy.gov/feg/coldweather.shtml
akirby
Cold air is denser, but that also means you need more fuel to go with the denser air. You get more power but you also use more fuel.
J-150
You're also more likely to increase warm up time
