2013-2014 Escape Front end "clunk" issue again

Recommended Posts

Ok, I am new to this forum, but it was something I needed to join so I could share my frustration and FINALLY a solution to the front end clunk we have had with out 2013 Escape. It occurred mostly on the passenger front but occasionally on the driver front. It occurred when you would turn the wheel and go up or down a driveway, shopping center entrance, etc. It was a deep, "CLUNK" sound. We took our Escape in a total of 6 times to Wilson Motor Company in Logan, UT. They changed all types of front-end parts including strut bearings, struts, tie rod ends, examined engine mounts, etc. and they finally gave up. CAN YOU BELIEVE THAT??? A Ford dealer telling us that they could not fix this problem which is under warranty. They told us to take it to another Ford dealer. That is when my wife called Ford Customer Care back in Detroit. They responded quickly and assigned it to a senior account rep. for the western US. I think her name was Tara. Anyway, we took the car into another Ford dealer and they reviewed what the first one did. They said they had an idea of what it could be. After taking the Escape to them, and riding around with the head mechanic, I could not get that sucker to make the noise. So I left it there. Their service manager drove it and got it to make the noise later that day. The problem: Replace the Front Sub-Frame. There are known issues and the TSB address some of them, but the subframe is less talked about, but a major repair. I am happy to say the Escape is back to normal. If anyone has any questions, I would be happy to answer them, so just post them below.

So this OP makes this sound like its been a common problem. I wonder if this is what my Wife's 2013 Titanium is doing. I have noticed it for a long time, but I would call it a very low toned, fairly quiet clunk that can be heard at slow speeds, turning around parking lots, braking etc.

Hi, it sounds like I have the same problem., an intermittent low pitch noise, kind of like a clunk that seems to be coming from the left Front of my vehicle. It's past the warranty and my mechanic cannot find where it's coming from. He has checked all front end ball joints bushing etc. along with all motor/ transmission mounts and has checked sub frame nuts and bolts. Can anyone help me with this problem.
