He was 86. Benton started at Ford as a cost analyst in 1953. As part of a 1987 restructuring, he became an executive vice president of the company and president of the newly formed Ford Automotive Group. In 1990, Benton was named president and COO under new CEO Harold “Red” Poling. Benton held these positions until he retired in 1992 after 40 years with Ford.
