job #1 ????

The Job #1 Date is the start of production for the new model year which for the 2016MY Mustang is 08/03/2015. Initial vehicle scheduling is always restricted to Dealer "Stock" orders only. Retail orders do not normally start scheduling until the "OK to Buy" quality status is reached which is usually 4-6 weeks after the Job #1 Date. Unless there's a change in the usual timing once production starts, I wouldn't expect retail orders to start scheduling until September for October production meaning a Dealer ETA of October or November.

Here is the problem. Let's say your vehicle is one of the first off the line after job 1. It's going to be parked in a huge lot somewhere waiting for the OK to buy which could take several weeks. When the OK to buy is given, they start building and shipping the retail (sold) orders directly from the line. Meanwhile, they have to go through all of the vehicles that were held for the previous several weeks, inspect them and fix them before they ship out. This could take weeks and it's most likely a last in, first out operation due to the way the vehicles have to be parked. That's exactly why they don't build retail orders first.

It's a gamble - you might get it sooner or you might have to wait even longer (and end up with a vehicle with unnoticed build errors).

^^^ Completely agree and I would request a retail order and not a dealer stock order. I went through this exact thing with the 2011 Explorer. Granted it was a brand new platform for the Explorer but they were held for a while.. people were waiting 6+ weeks initially after their vehicle was built because as kirby stated, the way they are parked, first in means last out for delivery.

Plus when you are spending that kind of money, wouldn't you rather make sure that all the bugs are worked out for any changes with the 16MY??

Just talked to dealer he just got the vehicle "pick up" date for next week. Whatever that means. I dont understand why there would be build issues when essentially its the same model as "15my. Onky difference is turn signals in the hood. He said he should have eta date with tracking numbers after that.

Akirby dealer stock from what i understand doesnt wait for the "ok to buy" hold. I might be wrong

It doesn't wait to be built, but nothing can be shipped out of the plant until the ok to buy is given as I explained above.

Since not much is changing ok to buy will probably happen quickly so there shouldn't be much to worry about either way.
