Why me ...just pick up the 2016 sport last night

Recommended Posts

So I picked up my 2016 sport last night ... Today I'm getting a good chance to look at it in the daylight.... Seems like some of the door moldings were not completely on... The headliner seems to be coming down by the third row window...

I paid a lot for this thing... Is this the dealer or the factory fault .... Help please...post-53513-0-76912200-1434743953_thumb.jpgpost-53513-0-76912200-1434743953_thumb.jpgpost-53513-0-20646600-1434744011_thumb.jpgpost-53513-0-23983400-1434744041_thumb.jpgpost-53513-0-81685600-1434744067_thumb.jpg

Do u think I can take it to a local dealer ... I brought it in New Jersey and I live in Long Island.... Plus I leased it... I don't want these things falling apart and I have to pay for them when I return it

I hate to see brand new vehicles with these problems that really should not happen. However they look like quick fixes. I feel your pain. I bought a 15 escape titanium and noticed the headliner was stained from water. The windshield was leaking. Very disheartening on a brand new vehicle.

Upsetting, but look to be easy enough to fix. :camera:

Dealers should be checking vehicles over thoroughly before letting the customer take possession. :rant2:

Actually, something like that should have never left the factory in that state. Someone on the inspection line must have spaced out for a minute to let that get by.

The plastic cladding you should be able to tap into place yourself with a rubber mallet or even the palm of your hand. As for the weather seal on the bottom of the door, the dealer is probably going to have to take it off and completely reset it. Shouldn't take more than 5 minutes.

  • 1 month later...

The joy of being the first one on the block with a brand new model.

It's a factory fault, for some reason they just didn't get the pieces on properly. Just take it to the dealer and they will fix it.

Our new 2015 model had similar quality control issues. I would not just put it down to the new 2016 model; I think there is a problem in the plant, or Ford is reducing quality control.

The things we found just after delivery a few months ago: rear door window molding was not installed properly, Driver side windshield pillar cover (outside) was loose (dealer also replaced the right side as it was also bad installed), Passenger front door had to be realigned (big gap at the bottom) and a loud rattle in the cargo area (Broken clip in on the driver side cargo panel).

I was quiet shocked that the car could leave the plant with these type of obvious defects.

It was all fixed under warranty, but it is a shame that we had to bring our brand new car back for a 4 days repair a day after it was delivered to us. 3 weeks later it went again back for 1 day as the AC stopped working at the hottest part of the day (120F). It was fixed with a software reset; so far it has been working well.

I still love the car, it drives great, but Ford's build quality should be better.

Well, it depends, is this an issue for a high percentage of cars, or just one here and there. To you, it's 100% because it happened to your car. But if this issue is only on one out of every couple thousand, then it's not really an issue. What those numbers are, I don't know.

With respect, this is precisely what I feel Ford motor company is also thinking. Everything is brushed off like its a one time thing; never happens etc. I have been with Ford for nearly 30 years, but since 2006 I have burned myself several times on so called once off issues, that are in fact a structual quality issue. I had 3 Expeditions, all bought new, 2 of them had during the first 2 years paint pealing of the rear door; I had to pay the repainting myself as Ford deemed it not under warranty. All 3 of them had a rattle at time of delivery in the room lining that was resolved with a simple piece of foam. I had an Ford Edge with the famous notchy indicator stick; an MKX with an unresolved sound from the power steering. It does not take a lot of effort to find via Google that these are very common issues (except the MKX power steering noise) that where present for many production years. I think that Ford is failing to apply improvements in their product cycle of particular models.... They need to get better in this.

For the 55kusd that I have paid for my full option Explorer I think it is ok to expect good build quality.

The fact that I am still with Ford is that I still hope the next one is better. I will not give up.

My experience has been the opposite. My Ford vehicles have been relatively trouble free. Including the $1400 transmission rebuild of my '99 F150 at 130k miles, I've probably spent less than $2500 on non-wear repairs on the 5 Ford's we've owned for nearly 400k miles total. Of course, I've spent $2k in tires this year alone with a new set on my F250 and the Flex.

I do agree with you, though, that if there are issues that are re-appearing, especially on multiple vehicles, they need to be addressed and not brushed under the rug.
