Goodbye to Ford

Recommended Posts

I have always owned Ford vehichles since I got my drivers liscense. Up until this week I had a 2013 F-150 Lariet a 2003 Lincoln LS and a 2009 Jag XK convertible. All of my cars are serviced at their respective dealerships. When the local Lincoln dealership closed I started taking the LS to the "new" Lincoln/Ford dealership for service. It amazes me that Ford is trying to revive Lincoln by using the same dealerships with Ford. You are expected to pay a premium for a Lincoln sold by the same 20 year old kid that will sell you a Focus and have it serviced at the same shop that does very little for their customers.

Here is my case, the LS had every service done at Rich Morton in Annapolis, when I had to switch dealerships, the other dealership insisted that the car needed plugs plus about a $1,000 in work. I explained that the plugs had less than 15k miles on them if they checked the service records for the car. They said that they only had access to what work they did on the car.

I had The Works done on the car this year, less than a week later it was leaking coolant. I took it back to the dealership for $987.00 in repairs ( new cross over pipe and thermastat housing). One week later it left me on the side of the highway, the upper radiator hose came off. I had to pay $175 to have the car towed back to the dealership. I got the bill and they even charged me to pressure test the the cooling system! I told the service writer that the hose had come off the car and his answer was "Water takes the path of least resistance". My comment back was that is true, especially when you don't tighten the hose clamp. They charged me another $200+ .

Despite this I went last week with checkbook in hand to buy a Taurus SHO. The nice 20 year old salesman went back to the manager and came back with a price that I thought was high. I asked about rebates and was told that the manager said that there were none available. I showed the salesman on the Ford website the available incentives, he said he would get the mamger. She came out and asked why didn't I like the price. I asked what about the rebate and was told there were none. I pointed to the computer screen listing the incentives and she said that I could not get all of them. I said that I would pay cash for the car and take the $3,000 incentive. She said that was already factored in the price. I handed her the worksheet that they had given me for the car and politely asked where was it shown on the worksheet and was told "it's in there" I thanked the salesman for his time and said no thank you and started to leave, the lady snarled WHAT, YOU ARE NOT GOING TO BUY THE CAR! I simply replied no and left. It occured to me why should I put up with this. I take the Jag to the shop they give me a cuurent model year Jag loaner, have a great customer lounge with free snacks and beverages and more inportantantly act as if they want to do business with you. So now I have a 2013 F-150 Lariit, a 2009 Jag XK convertible and a newJag XJ..

Did you know that there are literally, I mean LITERALLY THOUSANDS of different Ford dealers out there, and that you are not in any way shape or form obligated to continue to do business with a disreputable one?

I mean, I can't even comprehend your decision to continue to do business with this dealer, much less your subsequent decision to sign up with this forum to complain.

I realize there are thousands of dealerships, but when you are a busy person driving an extra 40 or more minutes for service is a problem, and I have read this forum for years - this is my first post.

That doesn't explain why you would buy a car from a dealership with a truly horrible service department--or why, since your car is out of warranty, you wouldn't go to a reputable independent service shop instead.

And now you've bought a car that has to be serviced at a dealership 7 miles from Koons.

Its sad how one dealership can mess it up for everyone. Trust me, being on my 3rd LS and I'm still holding tight to it, and an MKX the only reason I keep going back is because my dealership people are great even though Lincoln refuses to build a vehicle for my needs, I'll "settle a little"..., its like a family and they treat me well. It took years of building that relationship and such, and in your case its a shame that one act has soured it for you. Actually, just about every other dealership I have been to when trying to help friends buy cars, aren't any better. I have yet to visit a Toyota dealership and actually SIT DOWN on the table to discuss the purchase of a vehicle. Somewhere out in the parking lot I'll get the "Well we don't discount our cars because our cars are reliable and people want them", seems to be the common mantra.

BMW isn't any better either, I got the "Well we have great lease rates and our cars sell well because people want them", my usual response "But I want to BUY one, not Borrow one from the service bay weekly".Luckily my friend owns the dealership and I'm even having a hard time going through with it.

Last MBenz dealership I went to said they wanted to put me in one of their cars and that it would make ME look great. Talk about arrogant....They assumed I wanted a CLA because "All the young affluent shoppers want this", I'm like "Yeah, stupid ones who are used to front wheel drive poverty vehicles, If it's not an E+ I dont want it !!"...

So yes, theres many out there and many stories of the worst ones, I'm sorry you encountered a bad one.

Now the Tesla dealership has been real sweet with me though...

Great move Black Pearl!

You know we have options as consumers and don't need to drive to another Ford dealership when you turn right out of one there are 5 dealer's with equal, if not better product. Until those dealer's with the wrong attitude towards their loyal customer's go away then screw them. And i have been involved with all big 3 plus a number of high line German brands that have beyond their fair share of problems but the bottom line is "kiss my ass."

Good luck and hope you like the new Jag-great looking vehicle and if the service department bends over backwards to keep you happy then more power to them.

The old saying goes....the new car department sells the first car and the back end sells them the next and the next and the next.....or doesn't...

Trust me you don't want to buy a BMW unless you are going to sell it before the warranty expires!

Did you actually read his post? The service department hosed him over and he still went back to the showroom, whereupon the showroom failed to sell him the next product.

For reasons only known to him he decided to buy a car from a dealership with a horrible service department.

It's opposite of how I go about car ownership.

I could care less how incompetent a sales department is or how rude as long as I get the price I desire. The service department is what I care about. I will see the service dept at least 4 times per year solely for regular maintenance. The sales department will likely see my wife and I every 3 years (rotating between each of us getting a new car).

I mean, I hope the OP enjoys the Jaguar XJ. But I just don't understand the decision making here

I hope that if I was buying an 82k vehicle the dealer would bend over backwards for me. My experience with most Ford dealerships has been pretty pleasant (A plan helps alot there) and the service depts have been decent.

Ya I read it after a few to many margaritas last nigh! Reread it again this morning with a clear mind and see your point.

But the bottom line is consumers have choices and the dealer/Ford lost a sale.

I had a friend recently need a new vehicle. He is retired from Ford/Volvo and eligible for the various plans. I suggested he go look at a Fusion or a Focus. Two Ford dealer's were in his area and both treated him like crap. He went over to a Subaru dealer and had an excellent experience, even though he had to wait 3 weeks for his car to come in.

And Twintornado's....do you really think he is a troll? I mean this site has had its fair amount of them in the past but I would not call him a troll.

Since I never use the dealer after the sale except for warranty work and I use X plan when purchasing, I really don't care that much. I have a salesman who knows me and knows I use X plan so all I do is call him and tell him what I want and either he finds it or we order it.

I'm going to buy the vehicle I want regardless of the dealers, but I guess if you aren't dead set on a specific model and you get a better experience elsewhere with a vehicle you like just as well that makes sense. I just don't buy cars that way.

I really wish people would disassociate Ford from Ford dealers. It's not fair to hold Ford accountable for things they are forbidden by law from controlling.

Black Pearl...understand where you are coming from, unfortunately when a dealer KNOWS its a pain in the ass they milk it, move to So Cal, theres a damn Ford dealer every 15 miles....

I'd say Metro Detroit where there is one ever 5 miles however a lot are trash and don't really care about the sale as virtually everyone is A/X/Z plan. Some have been upgrading to the new Ford look but it has been slower than in other markets. The closest dealer to World Headquarters is a total dump, and Southgate Lincoln should just be closed, horrid location and is another dump stuck in 1982.

Also not that it makes a difference at this point but you can order a Ford at one dealer and have it delivered to another.

Yes....he is what I refer to as a "One Day Wonder"....come here, bitch and moan about a poor experience at a dealership, swear off the company as a result and likely, will not be back....we have ALL seen this before...

Need more proof? The original dealership he went to is STILL OPEN! Rich Morton Lincoln/Mercury is now Rich Morton Mazda...so he has the option of STILL bringing his car in for service that he claims is a great service center.

I am not following you-maybe I am still hung over a bit but they used to be a Lincoln store and now have the Mazda franchise. So are you saying he can bring his non Mazda product into that dealer? I guess so but that is not the norm.

And just because he had a bad experience does not mean the dealer is terrible-there is so much turnover at some of these stores its crazy. The back end is usually a bit more stable but not always.

Rich Morton had 2 locations, Annapolis and Lincoln/Mazda in Glenn Burnie. An employee at the Annapolis location told me that they were going to lose their jobs. The building sat vacant for

a few months before Koons Toyota expanded and took it over

I don't know about the Glenn Burnie location, just that they closed the Lincoln dealership.

Can always buy online and have car delivered. Dealers know if they have a 'live one' and won't back down on prices. Only if you play 'hard to get' and walk out, then suddenly 'Oh we can take off X$$$!'

Still, can try other brands, but I am glad I came back. There's many dealers to pick from.

And this is exactly why if I have a bad buying experience at a dealer, I go to a different dealer, not a different manufacturer.

I go to one dealer for my service because they take exceptional care of me (I travel 25 minutes further just to go to them from my closest dealer). But I would never step foot in their sales area to buy from them as I've had managers lie directly to my face on the sales floor.
