Ford Transit Custom coming to the US?

Recommended Posts

A Transit Custom test mule was spotted in Colorado. Too soon for facelift for Europe so this is not a mid-cycle update - so the new headlights is curious... The most obvious conclusion is that it has revised headlight to comply with DOT requirements in the US. But again, just a guess.

I still can't figure it out lol - the Transit Custom fits between the Transit Connect and Transit, right? And is it passenger only? Or is there a "work" version too?

Tiny - Transit Courier (Fiesta platform)

Small - Transit Connect (Focus platform)

Medium - Transit Custom (FWD)

Large - Transit (FWD/RWD/AWD)

In Europe, the passenger version is call Tourneo (+Courier/Connect/Custom, depending on size) but in the US, both passenger and cargo version use the Transit name.

Got it? :headspin:

The large transit is only RWD/AWD, the custom is the FWD version of the transit.

I WANT this van to come here....IMO the transit family right now is A) too small, and B) too big....this is right in the middle.

I agree, ford doesn't need a true minivan with transit custom and connect.

I once nearly set about installing a 7.3 idi (non turbo) into a 92 Grand Marquis along with a T-18 4-speed. I decided the lack of overdrive was going to be a problem though and didn't do it.

Best Crown Vic swap though is a 6.8 V10! I've seen a couple. Not exactly lighting quick but definitely unique and the definition of burnout machine.

Dean, what is your opinion of the interior of the Transit Wagon especially the seating ?

I have not seem one in person, but that 3 person second row seating just will not cut it with my family ! They have ridden around in Chateau Club Wagons for the past 25+ years and really like those quad captain's chairs !

The Transit Wagon needs a Chateau trim package !!

@oldwizard....anything other than the front seats are lacking comfort and padding...in the regular length 8 passenger the third row is a right cock up....they IMO should have sacrificed a little of the space behind the last row and given more third row leg room.... I just sold 5 to a transportation company and they have actually fabricated extended rails for the rear seat to do exactly that. I don't rightfully know who Ford has as consumer groups, but that 3rd row is a blatant mistake, much like the fold down mechanism in the 3 row Transit Connect...which is one of the worst designs Ive ever seen. As for Cheteau...I agree, 7 passenger with twin captains was nice...maybe that will come...hopefully in a more comfortable manner.

I've not had experience with the Transit, but I did play with the TC's 3rd row you're talking about and yeah, that thing is terrible haha. Took a while to figure out.

I cuss EVERYTIME I have to demonstrate...its SO bad I forget how it operates EVERY time...just AWFUL....and while Im bitching, heres ANOTHER idea for the Ford Gurus, why, when you can put front sensors, rear sensors, 180 degree cameras, have cars / TRUCKS that can park themselves; can you NOT develop some sort of height sensor to warn Transit drivers of impending "haircuts" for their mid and high roof vans/ wagons....shoot, I EXPECT ROYALTIES!......

That is a very good idea, and with the Front Camera already in the Transit for the Lane Keeping system it would just be software programming to accomplish it.
