MAP C-crew getting canned?

A year long wait list in Australia could be just 500 mustangs and by the time it's built and shipped the customer could have waited a year to get there car! It's not like Australia is around the coroner!

Fair enough. I'm just speculating anyway. Edited by fuzzymoomoo

We will be starting to work Friday's by August from what I hear. Which by the way they go about things it will be by July.

You watch how many Saturdays we end up working because only running 2 shifts won't be able to keep up with demand, them eliminating this 3rd shift is going to backfire on them and cost the company more in the long run

working us OT to stock up as a safety net in case 2 crews get overwhelmed. But the Focus isn't selling that great as we all know.

If focus sales were down 20percent like they say they were, all 3 shifts could have went down to working 32 hours and kept up with that demand. It would have saved some jobs from being lost

That would not go over so well on paper, they like to report a plant running at least 40 hours a week, it makes them look good on those JD power studies

Actually Focus sales are up, in May of 2014 year to date sales were 94,690,

May 2015 year to date sales are 95,028,

The thing is that those sales numbers don't call for a plant to have 3 crews, they can achieve the units they need on 2 shifts without having downtime!

I read in the Melbourne newspaper that there are 16,000 orders for Australia. Not a massive number but still a good indication of interest. Hope the cars are built right, you only get 1 first chance to impress new market.

thatsix speed trans issue is what i hear complained about the most from so many people. My wife had a 13' Focus and thats all she kept saying to me, "it drives very odd, i don't like it" as soon as her lease was up, she went and got an Edge.. Good friends of ours have a 14' Focus and thats what the wife complains of too, she said she feels like the trans is about to buck off the car at any minute, she has also had an issue with it slipping into neutral mid drive (even when the shifter is still showing "Drive") she has taken it in to her dealer and they pretty much just tell her "thats how its suppose to be" and they refuse to do anything... What a cluster

Ford's bean counters are very good. They know how to crunch the numbers & get the best results for the bottom line.

Ford would rather run 2 shifts with max contractual OT then run 3 shifts if they can maintain production. They know exactually what numbers represent the break even point.

Remember every decision Ford makes is either marketing related (market share) or one that effects the bottom line. What we want or what's best for us does not factor in to it.

Why would Australia be around a medical doctor that investigates causes of death?

That and it seems as though the union is not willing to fight at all because as we all know the 2nd tier are second class citizens who don't really matter and should just shut up and be happy they have had jobs

Tier 2 won't be quite much longer. Especially if this contract doesn't benefit them.

Ford made too quick of a decision on cutting Focus production when gas prices briefly dropped. The demand for smaller cars will be right back to where it was in the last few years in no time. Edited by Tier2

Ford has been over-building the Focus for a long time This shift reduction was bound to happen. No plant wants to run with as much layoff time as we have seen over the past 2 years, its not profitable. Sales may be going up, but sales alone are not the problem. Sales vs build IS the problem. We overbuild by thousands of vehicles every month. 3 crew was not sustainable when people want SUV's and trucks.

Believe what you want, but this was not a "Quick" decision. Ford NEVER makes quick or off the cuff decisions. Everything they do, is calculated down to the last penny of cost, and strong considerations are given for the future. I am betting that the decision to eliminate a shift took months to decide. Ford has been around a long time, most of those making the most noise over this decision have been around Ford for less than 4 years. They will learn, in time that as soon as they think they have Ford figured out, Ford proves them wrong. Layoffs and shift reductions are a part of the industry, and always have been. NO ONE will lose a job. Not one person, unless they fail to report when told to do so. You might be laid off for a few months, but you WILL be taken in to a new job. Sit back, relax, enjoy your summer off, and be prepared to get back to work. Be realistic, you are going to get unemployment and sub pay, which totals 85% of your pay, and you won't be spending on fuel, and lunches for work. You come out ahead of the game.

And remember one simple thing...WORRY KILLS PEOPLE. Its bad for your heart.

Remember there was a time when Ford would build cars just because they had capacity, then rebate & sell them at a loss. We did this with Taurus & Windstar/Freestar & many other platforms. This was a mistake & Ford has vowed to never make that mistake again.

Cutting edge companies are flexable & adjust to demand quickly. Ford has promised wallstreet they will be agile in the future & I expect to see shifts to come & go much more often then we have seen in the past.

Get used to it, it's how we do business.
