You do realize they would need to completely reconfigure the entire suspension lines, install new dynos that are meant for all wheel drive, as well as new tooling for engine line. The plant in Germany already has all of that. Whenever you've got a chance to get a product you take it...Flat Rock did it and they were able to add jobs because of it. Most of the tooling for the platform was already there from when Mazda was still making the 6 there. The don't make hybrids or plug ins there and as far as I know, they don't do any of the high end all wheel drive models either. I think when you have a chance to get a new product at your plant you don't ever turn it down, regardless of the amount of down time it would take to accommodate that product. Don't get me wrong, I was very upset about the whole thing at first too, until I sat back and thought about the situation. Keep in mind, the plant in Germany has been building the '15 Focus since last spring. It was delayed for us at MAP until December for god knows what reason. that means that they will be switching over to '16 models sometime really soon, if they haven't already, meanwhile we are struggling to even build the '15 cars. If anything blame the fuckers that can't be bothered to show up to work (don't get me started on that rant) for us losing the RS, not the UAW (even though there may or may not be blame there) or corporate, because quite frankly, its kinda easy to understand why they made the call they made. I've been bitching to my committeeman nonstop for a year now since we on door line seem to have the worst problems with attendance.
