bzcat
The previous threads all got derailed by D6 discussion. Not saying this one won't be the same but at least I'm giving it a fresh start. Stay on topic people! We got the first clear photo of the rear end. Also, compare the side profile of the Taurus to the Continental concept car, you can kind of deduce that both cars share the same FWD platform based on the location of the front wheels in relation to the front door and size of front overhang. silvrsvt
Rear end is very Audish As a current Taurus owner, I'm not sure if I like it or not. I don't like the vertical grill on it
ANTAUS
Last time that Ford went Volkswagen-ish with the "Taurus" was with the 500 making it look like a bloated Passat back in 2005, and that didn't end well...Just say'in...
jpd80
Patience grashopper, wait until we see the car in its entirity and appreciate the combined styling elemets. Good feelings about this car even if For were to expand horizions to europe and then RHD markets.. Thought I recognised those tail lights.. And the front too Edited March 31, 2015 by jpd80

The not-quite-competitive D30 in it didn't help either, I'm sure...
Anthony
It's a big Fusion.
tzach
It is a big Fusion and I guess that is not so bad but it is a little bland with the bigger proportions on the front. The back is just to generic, I wish they had stuck with a blockier shape taillight like on the current car. It seems like a step backwards visually to me. It will be smaller on the outside, bigger on the inside and be more efficient and modern which is great. It just might look a little boring in comparison to the current car and especially next to the stunning 2017 Continental.
Harley Lover
It has a lower beltline that the current Taurus. Thank god.
TBirdStangSkyliner
Wow, after looking at the Continental off and on yesterday, the Taurus looks extremely ordinary. So many other companies have copied bits and pieces of the Fusion that the look is getting a bit "fleet-ish". It's a different size of car, but Chevy is boasting about the next Malibu being a styling break through with some teasers that seem to add credibility. Audi's concepts are signaling change. There does seem to finally be signs of a major shift in styling paradigms, maybe the Taurus isn't pushing the envelope far enough for how long it will be on the market. Hugh
Maybe it's not a Taurus. Maybe it's an all-new Falcon?
akirby
It's also still possible this is only going to China, although I admit that doesn't make a lot of sense.

TBirdStangSkyliner
I am a serious potential buyer for this car and have waited for the new Taurus generation. So far, I am ice cold on its design. I am awaiting the reveal to make final judgement, though. The rear-end in this series of pictures looks like every generic car since about 2010. The front would have looked fresh in 2013, but now nearly everyone has copied the six-sided Fusion grill. If the Taurus hit the market today in this form it would be as uninspired as any car available. It would easily take the dull, insipid crown away from cars like the Camry, Passat, and Legacy. In a year and a half out from now it will look even more terribly dated. Please, don't let these pictures really foretell the USA production model. silvrsvt
Nothing a MCE can't fix though. It doesn't look bad, but the problem is that it looks very generic and it doesn't help that its in white either. The biggest issue I have the grill..its far too flat/upright looking for its size. I was expecting something more like the Fusion. Smaller cars like the Focus and Fiesta can get away with a more upright grill since they are much smaller then the one found on the Taurus. ironhorse
The front grill needs a rake instead of straight up and down.

jpd80
Homer moment...American-Chinese Fusion ,,,Mmmmmm As generic as Taurus may look tot us, it's probably unoffensive enough to appeal to a much broader audience of new buyers.. silvrsvt
silvrsvt....pedestrian crash compliance?.... I was thinking that but IMO they could have still given it a bit more slope at the top instead of making it look at blunt as they did. Hopefully its not as bad as it looks in pictures
akirby
Maybe there will be a different grille for the NA Taurus? Yes - the current one. I'm starting to believe the hints were right and this is only for the China market.
silvrsvt
Yes - the current one. I'm starting to believe the hints were right and this is only for the China market. So they are going to build only the Continental in the US? The thing is what about "One Ford"? Having a China only Taurus would fly completely against that. Unless Ford is completely willing to let the Taurus die on the vine over the next 3-4 years till the Explorer moves over to CD6

That's another possibility - ditch the Taurus completely. They could do a stretch version of the Fusion to fill the gap. That would be an interesting strategy.
