Will Ford be generous? Maybe?

The ACA (affordable care act) (Obamacare) will be kicking into the revenue generating phase in 2018.

I`m wondering if the IUAW has heard any other early topic`s that Ford wants to discuss at the table this summer along with the a 3rd tier bomb shell.

With this contract being put together with in the time frame that will encompass the starting date for the ACA/Obamacare health care cost excise tax, I`m wondering how this 40% excise tax will be paid?

"Cadillac health care" plans are health care plans that exceed the government set cost levels. $10K for an employee and $27K for an employee and listed dependence's. Now that means if your health care coverage cost is over these set limits, lets say, $12K for an employee, some one will have to come up with 40% of the $2K above the set limit of $10K or $800 health care cost excise tax.

Now most small business`s or self employed won`t have to much to wonder about. Most of their health care coverage will fall with in the ACA/Obamacare limits. Also small business`s have far less employee`s and most will be able to talk with the employee`s to work out who will pay the 40% excise tax.

The law states "the provider, the insurance company, or the employer must pay the 40 percent on the portion of the health care cost that is above the caps". Let me make this clear "I" can`t find any language in the law that states the "employee" should pay the health care excise tax.

But.....I`m sure the IUAW is all over this and have a plan....

Ok.. back to the old long hair wondering.

Entry level, entry level at adjusted rate and any new hire? No worry there, Ford has that covered and the IUAW sold that deal to the membership in the last contract.... You better believe these members will never reach the ACA/Obamacare caps.

Lets just say there are 25K legacy or traditional members (whatever Ford/IUAW is referring to us as this week) and each of the 25K legacy or traditional members has $2K worth of health care coverage over the Obamacare caps, that would be $800 health care cost excise tax. So that would be like this $800 x 25,000 = a bunch of millions.....

Then there is the other thing, who knows what our health care costs truly are? Yeah I know you all are saying, "you silly old long hair, its on the bottom of our checks at the end of the year". OK agreed, but who comes up with the health care cost number? Ford, right? Oh the IUAW has a whole team watching the Ford books to be sure they don`t say one thing and actually pay something else? right? Any trades members ever see how Ford states it pays $500 for a tool that snap on is selling on line for $150?

You think Ford in multiple ways, could make out on this ACA/Obamacare 40% health care cost excise tax? You think Ford could pull a trick out of their bag of tricks to get the IUAW to think they won by not charging the membership for the health care cost excise tax, by....lowering our health care coverage?

We tend to be a group of people (not everyone in the group but the majority) (boy oh boy they come out to vote for those bone us checks) that just look at the bone us checks and then can`t wait to bitch about the contract..... tiers are here to stay, benefits are a thing of the past and legacy members lets pray the government will make Ford and IUAW give us something for all the years we paid into our retirement plan. No, I don`t want to start another savings plan (401K) with what Ford states and the IUAW agrees I and all the other legacy members have invested into "our" (not FORDS or IUAW`s) retirement plan.

Get ready to start paying co-payments and welcome to the wacky world of the NEW TRADITIONAL employee`s.

PS... if the contract sucks (I said if) don`t vote for something that sucks, don`t worry big Jimmy will come to your local and tell everyone just how lucky they are....

On ford.benefitcenter.com, they have a value for our healthcare. My family is well under the 27k limit.

Instead of the tax, I would be more worried about our healthcare being canceled and being thrown into the healthcare exchange and Ford just paying the $2000 fine per employee and pocketing the rest as savings.

Next Year Group rates for health care policies go away under the ACA.....That means policy costs are going to almost double for employers providing health care ins. to their employees. The govt. set it up this way to get the tax revenue to fund free insurance for low income. Do a little research.....Ford paid 8000 for my insurance last year and will increase to close to 15,000 after group rates are no longer available to employers so we are all going to get Boned hard soon. So much for Democrats looking out for the working class.......the govt. needs the revenue to give away more free stuff on our backs

You been doing your homework gearjammer, the increase will go into effect and that day we will see the start of the health care cost excise tax and do we think Ford or any other employer is just going to eat that tax?

Great post gearjammer.

Great post Decker. Everyone needs to be ware of this.

thanks Grandmaster B

There are other unions at present, fighting this issue with companies that want to change there health care coverage now before the date ACA/Obamacare actually happens.
