mark0006
Oooch!!! from the article: “Just picked my car back up from the dealership for some warranty issues. Driving on the freeway and noticed some white smoke coming from the hood. It progressively got worse so I pulled over into the shoulder. Instinctively thought the car was over heating and it was steam from the radiator. So I proceeded to pop the hood as flames burst from the edges of the hood. Here's the outcome. Insurance is going to love me." 3 pictures and full article .
aneekr
Quality is Job 1. Putting out the flames is Job 2. :happy feet:

fuzzymoomoo
Coincidental? Doubt it, there's approximately 603810205730248689 different things that could have caused that fire.

fuzzymoomoo
True, but just after leaving the dealership? Are you suggesting sabotage? That would be fucked up if that turned out to be true.

akirby
Are you suggesting sabotage? That would be fucked up if that turned out to be true. Of course not! All you have to do is leave the oil cap or radiator cap off or something loose on the fuel system and those liquids can easily start a fire. Nobody was implying it was intentional. bdegrand
Now Boldride has advertised the fire today on the Yahoo website. Top news story. Hopefully, it's isolated and quickly resolved. Remember the Tesla fire. We don't need bad publicity.
fuzzymoomoo
It won't be a major issue, it's one fire. Teslas were self destructing left and right for a while

Remember the Tesla fire. We don't need bad publicity. It was just in for service. That's the most likely cause of the fire, not a manufacturing defect. Ahh...who am I kidding? They don't care about accuracy, just clicks.
mrblanche
I used to have a tool box full of tools I had found under the hood after being in a shop. Some pretty significant. Loved my Snap-on torque wrench. Mechanics are human; it wouldn't take much to have an oil or fuel leak under the hood.
fordtech1
Could be a number of things. However, 6k miles sounds like it was in for service and something was left loose or incorrectly installed such as oil cap or oil filter. The mustang has been out for a while now, so I think this is an isolated incident. Remember the 13 escape 1.6 fire risk recall. It didn't take long at all to show up. Truthfully, I would be glad it was not fixable. The only reason you have a fire extinguisher is to beat the guy who's trying to put the fire out. The crap part is finding out who should pay. mrblanche
In my 39 years of trucking, I have stopped and put out a number of vehicle fires. I always make it a policy to ask if they want the vehicle saved. (At least a couple of the vehicles were mid-80's Ford V6's, the ones that didn't have valve cover gaskets.)
