Ford GT: 250 a year, around 400K to start

Recommended Posts

bets are on, I say just over 200 plus, just under 400k no....you cannot be the new guy on the block and expect to compete head on price wise from the get go....ESPECIALLY against true exotic s such as Ferrari, McLaren and to an extent lambo ( I say extent because the same floor plan is avail on the R8 in an AUDI ) I say undercut and offer similar performance...THATS a coup. Don't chestbump in an established boys club and expect to be embraced....price the vehicle above the new NSX but below the true exotics.

No one is mentioning the fact that the new GT is heavy on carbon fiber and aluminum. Both of those add a lot of cost to get the weight down. I'm sure all the carbon fiber parts are being hand molded and hand shaped to be installed. So the building process is much more detailed than the old GT with steel body and frame, built with traditional stampings.

That is becoming surprising cheaper. Alfa 4C is carbon fiber as well. It starts @ $53k.

Of course, at this price, Ford has to deliver a VERY competitive GT car. If not, this will go down as Johan de Nysschen dream pricing. I'll hold off on berating them until we see how it performs against other similarly priced cars.

P.S. Before anyone asks, yes...you can buy almost 17 V6 Mustangs for the same price. ;)

92merc....so is BMWs I8...........

And none of the above mentioned vehicles with carbon fiber as weight cutting intensive as the GT, nor do they have the power to weight ratio of the GT.

Just because it floats like a duck does mean it's a witch. (Google Monty Python Holy Grail)

price it similar to Ferraris 458, that to me makes sense...but the car is TOTALLY unproven....touting stupid MSRP numbers NOW, is the cart leading the horse....IMO this is actually BAD publicity....I don't car how good the car is, from a pure status standpoint a Prancing horse trumps a Blue Oval...

92merc....the I8 has a performance version coming along with different tech, and in reality, in regards to the GT, what IS the curb weight, what IS the actual horsepower...NOTHING is cement yet, nothing , just teaser tid bits and speculation...

The GT isn't aimed at cars like the Ferrari 458 (soon to be replaced by the new 488), McLaren 650S, and Lamborghini Huracán (which shares a platform with the Audi R8 as Dean suggests), but at the "bigger" fish like Ferrari's F12berlinetta, McLaren's new 675LT Limited, and the Lamborghini Aventador (unique platform). The new GT will have that level of engineering/performance/sophistication.

Check out the pricing on the latter three cars and then tell me if anyone thinks Ford's being ridiculous.

my point is its coming to the party unproven, and I HATE cocky.....I think Ford as far as pricing gos is aim middle ground...also, what going to happen when the mid engine Vette arrives...400k...nope...who will look a little foolish then...

Well, obviously the Vette if it tries to go head-to-head with the GT.

You obviously have a good viewpoint from a dealership/sales perspective that the rest of us don't, so hopefully Ford took that under consideration when making these decisions. I can only add that if the 250 units-per-year number is adhered to, it will hopefully make the GT exclusive enough that the demand is always there.

I also sold/ helped run a Ferrari dealership...I give cudos to Ford for aiming so high performance wize, but lets tap the brake pedals of egos when it comes to MSRPS....outperform at a fraction of the price...THATS the thing legends are made of....

Anyway you look at it, Ford has got it's work cut out trying to beat the competition. Not meet but beat. The history of GT40 was to beat Ferrari right? It's keeping with the spirit of the project at least. Hell throw a Lincoln emblem on the GT and call it day. Another victim of badge engineering!
