coupe3w
Kia has a 188 HP 1.0L 3 cylinder. So not so impressed with 170 HP.
Gnostic
Kia has a 188 HP 1.0L 3 cylinder. So not so impressed with 170 HP. Kia's turbocharged three-cylinder makes 118 horsepower http://www.autoblog.com/2015/02/23/kia-one-liter-engine-europe/
Deanh
Hyundai also claims outrageous HP numbers for the Veloster which, for the numbers they tout is an absolute SLUG...what does that tell you...aside from that I think that 188hp is incorrect, Ive read 118.... MKII
Kia's 1.0 T-GDI develops either 100ps or 120ps and will be offered in Kia's Euro Cee'd GT line up in the 4th Q 2015. The new Fiesta R2 will get its first taste of action this weekend as Estonian Rally driver Sander Pärn undertakes course car duties on the 40th anniversary of the Malcolm Wilson Rally in England on Saturday 7 March. M-Sport’s all-new Ford Fiesta R2 powered by a 1.0 litre, turbocharged Ecoboost engine. The new machine, which Pärn has helped develop over the winter, features a raft of modifications including revised transmission, new braking system, electronics, cooling system and revised suspension, to give the new Fiesta R2 even more adjustability. The identical cars will again be equipped with DMACK’s range of gravel and asphalt tyres. Sander Pärn said: “The new Fiesta R2 feels really nice. The old car has provided a really strong base and M-Sport has made a number of small improvements throughout the car, not just with the engine. As an example the front suspension offers more options for adjustment and that will help younger drivers learn even more during this year’s Trophy.” Edited March 3, 2015 by MKII
coupe3w
http://www.digitaltrends.com/cars/kia-reveals-new-turbocharged-1-0-liter-3-cylinder-engine/ Kia is set to throw its hat into the three-cylinder engine ring this year, debuting the diminutive power plant at the 2015 Geneva Auto Show in just a few short weeks. The Korean automaker follows other manufacturers producing small displacement engines such as Ford with it’s 1.0-liter Ecoboost and BMW, whose three-cylinder is integral to the i8’s hybrid system. Dubbed the 1.0 T-GDi Kappa engine, the new motor will be capable of producing 188 horsepower and 127 pound-feet of torque. This is thanks to a single-scroll turbo that has an electronically operated wastegate that increases efficiency. Lasers drill out injector holes that are configured to more evenly spread out the combustible mixtures in the cylinders.
Deanh
coupe, hadn't read that, but based on all the others, in which none have mentioned 188, i would take it with a grain of speculative salt, knowing kia/ Hyundai, it will probably also get 50 mpgs..... I know I couldn't believe it when I read it either. But if true, wow that is some engine.
Deanh
its only one source....all the rest, and theres a few state 118, so it could even be a typo....lol...that said, a 1.0 turbo could be tuned for substantially more ( larger turbo etc ) but that comes with costs...ie lag central and a limited brutal power curve Edited March 3, 2015 by Deanh
MKII
Ford's engineers were able to tune the 1.0l EB engine and lift output to 202-horses (205PS).
fuzzymoomoo
I'm amazed at how much power they can squeeze out of the EB engines with relatively few adjustments and no beefed up internals.
Biker16
I'm amazed at how much power they can squeeze out of the EB engines with relatively few adjustments and no beefed up internals. I just can see the Aluminum Ecoboost making 200hp per liter, but I am completely comfortable with the new CGI and grey iron blocks used on the new 2.7 and 1.0 of making that much power, iron is just more robust than the aluminum.
