Dave-S
According to the manual for my 2014 Fusion, I have a "lifetime" fuel filter integrated in the fuel tank. I am wondering if anyone has had to have this filter changed? It just seems a bit odd that Ford would not have a provision to change the filter. Does anyone know if the tank has to be dropped to get to the filter if it ever does need changing?
akirby
It's not something that needs to be changed unless the pump itself has a problem. The tank probably does have to be dropped. I don't recall anyone replacing just the filter. It's probably more of a big screen around the fuel pump intake rather than an inline type paper filter. ajcomputer
Yes, the entire fuel pump module would have to be replaced as the filter is integrated. Ford says it will last the lifetime, aka 150k, so there shouldn't be any worries
YT90SC
akirby, the filter is a real post pump filter, not a pre pump sock. It is integrated in the pump module, and not serviced separately. In the old days most people never changed their filters until they had some kind of failure. Couple that with cheaper cost for lines and no places that it can leak or add to evaporative emissions and you have filters built in pumps. The honest truth is that if you fill a filter like an old school FG-800, the pump is toast as it ate all that crap and fed it to the filter in the first place. akirby
Yeah - like the transmission filters. People freak out about changing the filter by dropping the pan but truth is if that filter is clogged the tranny is already toast.
