Ford performance expedition?

Recommended Posts

So what I have heard is the new all aluminum Ford Expedition will be based upon the current f150 platform. We also know that there are several more ford performance projects coming out by 2020. So my question is with the expedition being on that platform wouldn't it be easy to offer an raptor expedition platform? What a great way to steal some of gm's large suv Thunder than to build the ultimate off road suv. I know that jeep has the off-road small suv crowd cornered as well ford has the truck crowd with the raptor. No one has the large suv crowd bc there is no offering outside of a z71 Tahoe. So would it be feesable and how would it sell?

IMHO, barring a heavy-duty market recession, Ford will do something with the aluminum Expedition/Navigator to stay within sight of the luxury competition. For example, Audi has announced a Q-9 uber-CUV/SUV, and M-B and BMW and L-R will surely be competitive. Can Ford make a business case for a very high power Lincoln Navigator? HiPo, as in EB5.0, with all that entails? If so, doing a Ford Raptor could happen, IMHO. :)

What would be the point of an EB 5.0 when the EB 3.5 appears capable of 450+ HP in the next iteration?

Oh wait, these are luxury buyers. I forgot. :)

Well, rumor is they're going all out on the Navigator, so I guess we'll see.

Considering the torque, that would do for the initial launch, but it might take 550-600+ hp to stay with the M's and AMG's. :)

Is it me, or does Ford have a real opportunity with the next Expedition and Navigator? I find the GM trio's design language somewhat polarizing. It isn't nearly as clean as it was. I have ridden in my friends 2015 Suburban LTZ, and it wasn't particularly impressive, not bad but not impressive. I think Ford has a shot at taking back market share with the right vehicles.

I really do think ford has s great opportunity to reclaim large suv sales title from gm or atleast give them a run for their money. The new Tahoe/suburban aren't garnishing any wow factors from people I know. I have a few die hard gm suv fans that aren't too excited to move up to the newer models. The expedition is a great platform but is just long in the tooth and a lot of people have a hard time dropping 50k on a 2003 sheet metal vehicle. I'm hoping the new expy doesn't look as truck like but more suv like the explorer. I feel like that might be part of the expedition selling problem is that the housewife is not into the bold truck front like the husband is. -hope that makes sense another reason for a raptor expedition is border patrol. The border patrol runs tahoes if there was an expedition raptor style that would be a hard suv to beat cruising along the southern desert border. What do we know about the new expedition? All I have heard is 2017, aluminum and f150 frame? Any validity to this?

That's all we know! There is a very high degree of validity from leaks and informed speculation inferred from comments made by Ford.

1. We know Expedition won't continue on an unique chassis - just too low volume even with Navigator. So F-150 frame is the only possibility.

2. We know Ford is putting all the truck programs on aluminum diet so figures that Expedition is on the list too.

3. 2017 is confirmed for Navigator... Ford said so when the 2015 Navigator came out. Expedition is not yet confirmed for 2017 but don't see why it would be delayed.

Additionally, I think Ford will try to engineer an IRS to work on the F-150 frame so Expedition can keep the best in class ride and handling, and keep the disappearing 3rd row seats. I also wouldn't be surprised if Navigator comes out with some trick air suspension options which is par for the course on the luxury side of the business.

So if the new navigator is rolling out in '17 when would it be unveiled? i havent seen any pics of mules around. Yeah that would make sense that the expy would be released same time unless the expy and navigator have different sheet metal then i could see ford showing off the new navigator and expedition different years.

It's a bit early to be seeing mules driving around. Mules of the Explorer didn't start getting photographed until about a month before its unveiling.

As for the timing of the unveiling, since it's supposed to be a '17 model, sometime later this year or early next year.

You can bet your sweet bippy that the Navigator and Expedition will NOT share exact sheet metal. Those days are over!

Just from a manufacturing standpoint, some parts would be pretty damn close. Ex. Fenders, doors, quarters, roof.

Yes and no. Hard points and attachment points will need to be the same, but the parts will be differentiated as much as reasonably possible to distinguish the two vehicles from each other.
