LincolnV
Lincoln's reply when questioned..."We do not comment on speculation." http://www.detroitnews.com/story/business/autos/ford/2014/12/17/neil-young-lincoln-continental/20560119/
fordtech1
I think they will use the Continental again. To me it would be dumb not to use a name that is so recognized with luxury Lincolns of the past.
jpd80
Ford PR said that it couldn't give a continental about Lincoln rumors...D'oh
probowler
Good, I hope they move past that ass of a naming system they currently use.
ANTAUS
So Porno is the name of the company? If the vehicle is to debut in 2016, then my only guess would be the MKS being renamed the Continental. Or maybe Continental is the "behind the scenes name", to the next MKS. Well seems like there been lots of rumblings over the past couple months about the name coming back...hopefully the car that wears it is good enough to have that name. sullynd
I wonder if "Continental" could be a styling concept - an indication of the future direction of Lincoln, but not a specific model.
atomcat68
No, it doesn't seem like a concept because Neil Young said his music service would roll out in 2016 cars and he did say Continental. Of course he also almost said the date was 1916 before he caught himself and made a little joke about getting old, so maybe Ford is calling the car by that name internally and will be MkS for production. I think the name/label "MKS" has almost become anonymous.
rmc523
I'm also wondering if the Chinese market has anything to do with this model name change. If it is to go on sale in China, they value heritage and American names.
tzach
Interestingly, Ford's luxury division in 2012 announced that brand recognition for its three-letter nameplates had exceeded the familiarity previously achieved by retired models such as Continental. Such as Continental but not specifically Continental. You ask 100 people what kind of car an MKS is and what kind a Continental is I have trouble believing more would get Lincoln with MKS. i would think even Navigator would beat it. Probably for Aviator and Zephyr since they were used for such a short time. Edited December 18, 2014 by 72 Mach
bzcat
Or you know... he could be high and doesn't know what he said... I can see the LWB MKS given the Continental name to create symmetry with the Navigator name at the top of the heap. But I doubt the MK names are going away.

SoonerLS
So Porno is the name of the company? Pono. It's a high-end (read: pricy) digital music player that uses a lossless codec developed specifically for it. IIRC, they did a Kickstarter campaign for it. silvrsvt
The new 2016 Lincoln Continental MKS ....had a decent ring to it.

So in that sense, it's a somewhat recognizable. But when someone hears "Continental," they think specifically of that particular model, and to a lesser extent of Lincoln. Deanh
@Sooner...$399 isn't pricey...its right in line with others, Sont just released a new Walkman ( a take on the I-pod, but probably with better Digital to Analogue converters ) and I believe its $299..... AlRozzi
I'd say it's more like this... When people here "MK_" they think of a Lincoln in general, not a specific model. So in that sense, it's a somewhat recognizable. But when someone hears "Continental," they think specifically of that particular model, and to a lesser extent of Lincoln. Excellent point. I have to wonder also how many other Lincoln names besides Town Car most people would actually recognize? Many were not used for very long, like Aviator, Blackwood, Mark LT or Versailles. MK series letters seemingly would be better known than many of the names.
rmc523
Excellent point. I have to wonder also how many other Lincoln names besides Town Car most people would actually recognize? Many were not used for very long, like Aviator, Blackwood, Mark LT or Versailles. MK series letters seemingly would be better known than many of the names. That's a good point. I'd really say the only Lincoln names that people would recognize at this point would be obviously Continental, Town Car, and to a lesser extent, Aviator. Continental is a name they could definitely reuse, but it needs to be an all-out vehicle, not something like the Taurus rebadge that was the last Continental. Town Car is a name that I don't think can be used for a long time, if ever again, given it's immediate image as an old person's car, unless you tack it on a livery version of something like they did with the MKT Town Car. Aviator I think is a good name that could be used again. I think the Aviator came at an odd time - right as BOF SUVs were moving out of favor, and the styling was too close to the Navigator....I know they were going for the mini-Navigator look (and I still think that generation Navigator was the best looking one), but I think it wasn't differentiated enough. They were actually supposed to put the Aviator name on the MKX before they went to the alphanumerics. I remember the Aviator concept, and remember seeing pictures of the production model where it did originally have the Aviator name on it. But at the last minute they called it MKX instead. I won't be surprised when it gets used on an Explorer-based model.

LincolnV
Gotta say....the current names have no passion what-so-ever about them. As for the German marks. I think people who buy them hope you react passionately when they tell you what they drive. I suspect it's mostly about the image and much less about the vehicle.
