1happyboy
I have a 1997 F-250 Crew Cab 4x4 with a 7.3L Powerstroke. I love my truck. The "check engine" light came on one day and I immediately took it to the local dealer. The dealer determined that the PCM was bad and needed to be replaced. That was 3 months ago. They were unable to locate a replacement part and efforts to have my current PCM rebuilt were unsuccessful. I am back to square one. Does anyone have a source for PCMs on older trucks? Any help is appreciated! Oh, and so you know, this is a California qualified vehicle. I understand that this makes a difference. Thanks. YT90SC
Where are you? If in Cali you might be screwed. If NOT in Cali, just get a standard PCM and convert it to a glow plug relay instead of controller.
1happyboy
That's what it's looking like, YT! I'm screwed, and yes, I'm in Cali! Was hoping the standard PCM would work for me since the truck is a 1997 and exempt from the Cali smog requirements. I figured if I don't need to have it tested, who's gonna know? I guess there is more to it than that. You'd think with as many 7.3s that are still on the road, parts wouldn't be so hard to find. I'm going to end up dumping a perfectly good truck because of one part. Dealer is taking old truck upon delivery of the new 2015 I ordered. Wish I could keep both! matthewq4b
Ok these are not hard to find if you look a little bit. Ebay http://www.ebay.com/itm/OEM-ENGINE-COMPUTER-PROGRAMMED-UPDATED-FORD-TRUCK-1997-F6TF-12A650-AYG-NAW6-7-3L-/360649365717?pt=Motors_Car_Truck_Parts_Accessories&hash=item53f86098d5&vxp=mtr Napa also carries them. YT90SC
I was wrong. He already has a relay, not a controller. He needs a PCM for his Cali truck with teartag MMEx for an auto or JKAx for a stick. NAWx tags are 96 49 state emissions. He has split shot injectors in his engine. It wont run right with a non-split shot PCM. He MIGHT be able to use a split shot PCM from an Econoline.
Ron W.
Post the number off of the old PCM, or at least the calibration / tear tag number. Edited February 1, 2015 by Ron W.
YT90SC
MMEx for auto and JKAx for a stick. He hasn't said which trans he has, but he has a Cali Emissions 97 F Series.
