New Contract Rumor

With all the reductions and restrictions of insurance coverage that have been voted in for the "entry level" members and the view of the bottom of the bus our retirees got from their VEBA (IUAW) insurance..... What would be hard to believe about any reduction in coverage?

It`s less than 10 months away or maybe they will agree to conclude negotiations early???

I can hear it now.... Be thankful you have a job.... in this economy...it`s the best we could get.....

Has anybody else heard that Ford is trying to cut health insurance for spouses in the new contract? Is there any truth to that? Can they do that?

They can bargain for whatever they want. I would be more fearful of being dumped altogether and givin a stipend, or nothing at all, to buy our own insurance.

I think healthcare, wages, and our pension will be attacked this contract. Chrysler already said they will get rid of their two tier system, and raising the lower tier up to first tier level was not the way they were approaching it.

UPS dropped 15,000 spouses, if the spouse was eligible for insurance through their own job.

I have seen the letters members have shown me, where Ford`s law firms inquires about a spouses injury, doctors visits or hospital stay and if the spouse could be claimed on another issued insurance?

There are questions in these letters that ask if the spouse is employed, full or part time? Are the any dependents eligible for coverage on your spouses employers coverage?

These letters are putting together a data base and the data will most likely be used to offer enough money to married employee`s to allow for the reduction of a working spouse from Ford`s coverage.

People, they have had lawyers, CPA`s and MBA`s working on these angles and building their data bases to reduce their risk of paying out more of Ford`s money since the signing bonuses were cashed.

Put more signing bonus than the last "Great" contract on the line and really..... what coverage, classification, trade, paid time off or our hourly rates is really secure.....?

I can only wonder what our side has been working on....?

Those letters are insurance audits. Employees are randomly audited to verify that their families are eligible for insurance coverage. I've had to fill one out twice in the last 15 years. I would assume they ask about spouse's insurance coverage in the instance of divorced couples providing insurance for their kids.

Ok please dont crush me but......if your spouse is covered by their job, what would be the big deal? Especially if the coverage was equal to the Ford insurance?

My wife is a nurse. Ironically, our insurance is better than what her hospital provides, thus we use mine.

Didn't FORD /UAW already agreed that if married couple has both health insurance (if they both worked for Ford) they had to choose which person would carry the other? I think around in 2000 era contract.

However, I agree with Decker, the UAW is already linning up the conclusion,..... "In this economy be glad you got a job"....etc

As a retiree, I fill them out yearly on myself if injured, and my family for yearly verification.

I heard this this statement back in the 80's from the UAW when I was recalled.
