jpvbs
http://www.bbc.com/news/uk-england-london-29692784 The company said the money, which includes £8.9m from the Government's' Regional Growth Fund, will create more than 300 jobs. The project will see the plant turn out up to half a million two-litre engines a year for cars and vans. . . . The first engines, which will be installed in Ford commercial vehicles from 2016, will come off the line at the end of next year and production capacity will rise to 350,000 units per year. The second phase is due to start in 2017, with the first installation in Ford cars planned for 2018. Is this investment just to keep up with normal growth in sales or is there some new application/market that Ford is planning?
twintornados
Isn't Dagenham where Ford builds the Duratorq line of small diesels?

Bob Rosadini
Isn't Dagenham where Ford builds the Duratorq line of small diesels? I do believe the small ones. I think the large commercial 7, 9L are built in Turkey. Dagenham built a 363 Cubic inch six that was used in mediums here back in early-mid 60's
jpvbs
I believe they also build the AJD V6 & V8 @ Dagenham (Jaguar/Land Rover).
Hugh
Isn't the EcoBoost 20 in the Evoque and Discovery Sport? Aren't they the basis for the new line of Jag I-4's? I think the diesel is used as well. I think there's an outstanding contract for powerplants for JLR IIRC.

twintornados
Sounds like Ford is getting ready for a new wave of interest in "clean" diesels.....where is the 3.2L Powerstoke (also known as in Europe as 3.2L Duratorq) made?

The 3.2l "Powerstroke" used in the North American Transit is supposedly manufactured at Ford's Struandale Engine Plant in South Africa. But I have also seen references that they also build/built it at Dagenham.
Inselaffe
It's the all in one replacement for the Ford designed Puma I4 and PSA designed DW10/12 engines. PSA and Ford in their JV both brought their own 2.0/2.2 I4 diesels to the table and then decided to specialize the Puma for commercial vehicles and the DW10/12 for passenger cars. PSA and Ford dissolved the JV for larger engines in 2012 (probably after Ford decided to go on their own with large I4s and PSA no longer wanting the Lion V6) and because the Puma is not competitive anymore in the passenger car market they needed to replace it. The new Jag I4s are completely their own design with diesel & gasoline sharing bottom-ends and being assembled on the same line, much like BMW and Volvo have just done.
