blockisle9
I received the letter from Ford outlining the 14S17 recall for the wiring harness. I was wondering if any one has or knows Fords instructions on repairing this issue? Thanks Lenny
Escapism
That's a good question. The harness probably runs to all sorts of places, and at the factory I'm sure its installed before all the other crap is in the way. One way to find out is to look up the part on the Ford parts site. If you can get a part number, you can get a picture of it. That picture will tell you how many connectors it runs to and looking in your engine bay will give you somewhat of an idea how much a PITA it is. ticobird
I seem to recall one specific spot on the harness that was not crimped properly at the parts manufacturer before the Ford assembly process. Let's hope it isn't buried. Luckily I also seem to recall it isn't.
YT90SC
The recall is simple. Remove the harness wrap from the harness in two areas, replace two wire splices, rewrap. The biggest issue is that the splices are not always where they say that they should be. The 1.6 is more prone to this issue and has yet to be recalled. Escapism
Another person had the recall done and the part # on the ticket was 3U2Z-14A088-BA. It's like a $10 part on ebay, so probably not a big deal.
golowes48
I had mine done today. My dealer didn't list the part number on the bill summary.

blockisle9
Thank you sir! No more wondering. I do think I will wait and see if and when it acts up before I have them do it. The car runs flawlessly and I really hate having things ripped apart for no reason. Thanks again
Escapism
Got mine back yesterday. I never had any problems, but I had it done anyway. I think mine listed a different part number. I will have to check later. Oh, and because they remove the negative battery terminal for the procedure, it wipes the function of some things. When I got home, my global open/close didn't work. I thought it was because of the power lose. But then I realized my one touch up and down on all the windows didn't work either. As soon as I reinitialized all my windows for one touch up and down, my global open and close worked again. They are such ass-clowns at my dealer. bigbobsha
I had mine done also. I think this was the 5th recall, with the air bag computer replacement looming. I am getting sick and tired of wasting 4 hours shuttling cars back and forth for recalls, repairs, etc. Since the last one was done the battery has gone dead at least 4 times. At first I thought it was the GPS being left plugged in, but I unplugged it and it still went dead. My build date makes it a candidate for fixing the issue with the roof motor, but my dealer is reluctant to do anything unless they can witness what is wrong. They would not replace a front brake caliper that locked up on me 3 times on my2012 F-550. This may be the last Ford I buy, I have been a longtime Ford customer with 3 currently in the driveway, but this is ridiculous!! Edit: I just received the letter for the air bag module recall.(14S21) It says if you do not have any dash lights on for the air bag, do nothing and ford will send out another letter when the parts are available. The anticipate availability by the 3rd quarter of 2015??? Something is wrong with the date...I hope! Sorry to hijack your thread. theoldwizard
Another person had the recall done and the part # on the ticket was 3U2Z-14A088-BA. It's like a $10 part on ebay, so probably not a big deal. This is a "generic" splice it containing 5 "closed barrel", uninsulated metal butt splices and 5 pieces of shrink tubing (likely double wall). The video specifically states that the splice should be soldered, but that will be difficult in a tight area. Also note that the video mentions using a longer piece of wire in place of the splice that was removed. Besides relieving any strain on the wires to be spliced it also gives the technician a bit work working room. Finally note how the added wire is folded 180° about 5-10mm away from the solder joint and then the double wall heat shrink is applied over that end of the repair. The total repair will replace 2 splices with 4 splices.
