New Ford GT on the way

Recommended Posts

So . . . if FMC switched focus from as possible Mustang GTE to a possible new Ford GT(E) program, is it safe to assume this new production "supercar" will sport a TT3.5 V6 and not a V8? I haven't read or heard anything about a V8 being tested for the upper level series (aside from the World Challenge and Continental Challenge series.) Not that it necessarily matters, but usually there are a few rumblings towards the end of a racing series . . .

I do know there is a twin turbo v8 (ecoboost) being tested currently. Do not know if it will make it to production but it is out there on the streets in a mule. Not even sure what application it would go in but it is not in a car platform at the moment, at least the one I am aware of.

Dude, we need more details. What are the specs? I'm guessing it's in a Super Duty?

I will be absolutely shocked if Ford does another GT ! It would be a huge money looser, like the last one.

Let's get real. Ford comes out a week a go and say they are going to increase worldwide sales by ~50% and operating margins. Shortly followed by the announcement that they are correcting their 2014 profit down by $1-2B

After subtracting $1 billion in warranty costs from recalls, as well as added costs from 23 new global vehicle launches and higher-than-expected losses in South America and Europe because of financial and geopolitical turmoil.

Ford expects to lose $1 billion in South America this year and another $1.2 billion in Europe, mostly due to problems in Russia. The automaker forecasts a $250 million loss in Europe in 2015, after previously predicting to turn a profit there next year.

That announcement could kill any "halo" program.

I remember rumours of a V8 4.2 or 4.7 ecoboost.......

While this rumor doesn't get super excited ( I would much rather have Ford brand announce a NA-style Minivan or a NA version of the EcoSport ), this is interesting. However awesome the last Ford GT was....I hated the name. I know the reason they couldn't use the GT40 nameplate...but I wish they would have used something else. In my opinion, any sports-car/coupe/convertible in the Ford range above the Mustang should be called "Thunderbird." I know that name has been used on an entry-luxury convertible, as well as a midsize and large coupe. But we all know that those markets no longer really exist anymore out of the luxury market...and it barely exists there. So, I think the only way to keep the storied "Thunderbird" name in the lineup is with a limited production sportscar to compete with the Corvette, Viper, Porsche and other high-end sportscars.

I hear and understand why you think the thunderbird should do battle with the vette and such.It was made to go after the vette in the first place. The purpose of the thunderbird was lost a very long time ago.To me,in order for FORD to be on top in this performance war, they need a few weapons, good ones at that. The raptor is king of the block from the factory, thats good. Its time to bring back the lightning truck.#2,for the vette, viper and porsche, all FORD needs is the COBRA!!give it 800hp.Then for lambo, ferrari, mclaren and company there would be the FORD GT.For fun, lets give it 1200hp.I didnt forget about Lincoln, lets see.The charger hellcat has 707hp,so an all aluminum 750hp Lincoln/Mustang can put that nasty fat cat in its place.Just my 2cents. :happy feet:

You know, I've been to summer car shows for many years now and I can tell you when a Ford GT is there it doesn't matter what is parked next to it, ZR1 corvette, Viper, AMG, the Ford GT is the center of attention. I can only count on 1 hand the number of times a Ford GT has shown up but the reaction is same every time as described above.

Ford has got its financial house in order currently and for the foreseeable future. I mean geez I wish I had the problem of just making 4 billion instead of 5 billion. Yes I understand Ford is a public company and management's job is to maximize profits. The pressure for profit is relentlessly never ending for a public company. And Ford has done a good job in this regard since the great recession.

But really, all work and no play make Jack a dull boy. Granted Ford is not quite Toyota dull. But maybe its time Ford made a statement car even if they lose money on the danged thing.

Anybody care to name me Ford's halo vehicle??? The GT500? Perhaps you could make a case for it in straight line happy N America. The Raptor? nah. The ST Focus & ST Fiesta are great examples of one of Ford's best strengths, taking very pedestrian vehicles and injecting some mild excitement into them. But they are no halo cars

Ford can afford a loss on developing a car again that stands with the best performing autos from competitors in terms of looks, acceleration, handling.. Something that 10 years from now will have people acting the same way toward it as people act today toward the now 10yr old Ford GT. What's a couple hundred million when your making billions.

A new Ford GT would be awesome!! Here are some ideas though to update it properly;

Ecoboosted motor, preferably a V6 to highlight the transition Ford has done in bringing the masses away from big V8's and their gas hogging ways.

Aluminum body panels.....of course!!

provide chassis for a "halo" car for Lincoln with a unique body to amortize cost as part of Lincolns' move upward.

Give/loan one to me for man on the street testing (thought I would at least ask....lol)

Dude, we need more details. What are the specs? I'm guessing it's in a Super Duty?

I really don't have a ton of info on this. I know about 3 weeks ago there was a "get together" with Ford employees and were showing a bunch of vehicles with "M" plates on them.. it was more of a "tell us your feedback on what you see" type of thing. Yes, it was in a Superduty and it was a ecoboost v8 (not sure size). I really don't have any more specifics then that.. so there is at least one out there but again, who knows if it will go beyond this point.

I can't see it being in a Superduty.. not with the CAFE regulations.. could it be in a super car, possibly.. I heard that the GT500 will have a special power plant in it but they would not tell me any more then that. I know one of those Superduty's had the 15 Expeditions dash and center shift.. one had a refrigerator in it.. one had the ambient lighting in it.. LED bed lighting..

Wish I could give more solid info but they won't spill any more then that vague details.. enough just to tease me lol.
