Headliner & Dealership Headache!!

Is anyone having a horrible time with their headliner recall and the parts being broken/crappy service? I got my 2013 Fusion headliner replaced back in JANUARY, and ever since then I had nothing but problems, I'm so mad! Each time I get my car back from the ford service department another bracket/pillar is broken, my car looks so much worse since it was performed.

So here's my questions, a service tech told my husband that large gaps next to the bottom of the A pillars, next to the dash, were normal. Like hell they are, they weren't there before I trusted them with my vehicle. I shouldn't be able to see the foam under the pillar from my driver's seat. Or the sun shining through it! Does everyone else have these gaps?

Does anyone have foam sticking out of the top of the dash, where it meets the windshield? want to be sure, I don't remember it being so jagged and uneven.

I think my entire headliner is installed incorrectly, since the right rear pillar& cover will not stay on, it doesn't fit (no clearance left against the rear window) and they have replaced it with a new one 3 times now. Is that possible and that's just whats messing the other brackets up?

So far I have had each pillar replaced at least once if not twice/3 times. Each time they dent, break, push white spots into the plastic. I have fingerprints all over the outsides of the headliner, and what looks like yellow adhesive. I've head the sun roof electronic panel replaced because blue lights were shining into my eyes from the rear view mirror after they broke that clip. Now I see the right rear headliner is sagging, probably another broken clip. The other pillars look ok but they don't seem attached very well and could detach at any moment. I'm so done with this, I just had it there most of the day last Friday to have the rear pillars, sunroof panel, and misc items replaced that they broke again. Then also had water damage cleaned from the "sun roof vent" leaking inside the car- wonder how that happened. My husband picked it up and what do you know, the rear pillar was still not on right, then once again its still not staying on to this day.

What you think, dealership problem or bad manufacturing problem?

Thanks for the responses. I haven't gotten anyone involved yet, I wanted to see if I was just making a big deal out of things or if I was justified. I don't want to go back to that dealership again, that's for sure, if they do such a bad job with cosmetics then I don't want to imagine mechanical maintenance. After returning it to the dealership the first time for broken pillars, my husband got a ride from one of the service techs. While chatting with him asked what we were there for. After his response the tech grunted" OH I know who worked on it" so everyone knows they have a problem with someone doing a bad liner job. Disappointing!

Do you think a different dealership would cover the replacement cost for another's mistakes?

Hard to say for sure. It depends on whether Ford is willing to pay for another repair or if they want you to hold the original dealership's feet to the fire to get it fixed. It won't hurt to ask. Just call the service manager and explain the problem.

If you have to go back to the first one talk to the service manager and owner if necessary up front. Let them know what happened and that you want someone else to work on it and for the mgr to make sure it's fixed correctly.

Yeah I agree, I used to go to another ford dealer prior to this for years and never had any issues. I just switched since its closer to home, what a mistake. I'll stop by my old one after work one day this week to compare other fusions and talk to the service manager. He has been very helpful in the past and he's assertive with his techs.

I doubt anything will change if I go back to the shifty dealer. They only have 2 cosmetic technicians. And last week the first guy told my husband it was good to go (he had to turn around and go back because of the bracket hanging down) just for him to have to wait another 2-3 hours for the 2nd guy to try n fix it and he didn't either. I've spoken to the service manager there several times, (I mean this is my 5-6 trip there for the same problems) he's really nice and always makes sure to reassure me things will get fixed, but I'm thinking he's not assertive enough with his service techs and that's why they get away with doing a crappy job. I mean it looks even worse than it already did before Friday (headliner dropping, fingerprints everywhere, broken brackets etc), just today I noticed gaps between the dash side panels& glove compartment etc. Looks like a clip is broken under the steering wheel panel too. I think they tried moving the dash to close up the side gaps I told them about, and made things worse again. Every time they touch it things get worse!

Thanks for letting me vent. It's sad I don't want to look in my car anymore, every time I do I find something else. My anxiety/blood pressure/OCD can only handle so much lol.

I had the Headliner recall done on my car; They replaced the headliner 5 time ... and still didn't get it right ... The aftermarket headliners are terrible and they are very hard to install... My car was in the shop for 1.5 months for this issue.

I ended up filling a lemon law claim against Ford, which was settled outside of court

I read through your posts and I can't believe you had that many issues. Scares the crap out of me. At least my headliner has no wrinkles or creases.

The headliner looks fine aside from their dirty fingerprints and a broken clip from trying to shove the rear pillar in! They just haven't tried removing it again since the original install. They should in order to correctly install the brackets. They just keep trying anything in their power to not remove it and do a lazy/half ass job. I hope that another dealer will just start over.

I talked to a coworker (mechanic) who used to work for my old Ford dealership, he took a look at my interior and couldn't believe the job that was done. He said to talk to my old Ford service manager (like I planned) because they call an upholstery company in to do these type of jobs. He said most regular techs just don't have the skills/art down (completely admitted he couldn't do it either). Let's hope I can get this resolved without lawyers. I haven't had it

In the shop long enough for lemon law. I usually get it back the same day or next day still messed up.

Lemon Law usually has two parts: failed repair attempts for the same problem or total days out of service. I believe that Nick qualified under the failed repair attempts for the same problem clause. You may as well. However, it should be noted that some states may require the owner to give Ford one final attempt at repairing the problem, during which they may send someone from Ford Corporate to oversee the dealer's work or actually complete the repair themselves. This may be what you need to get it fixed correctly.

Also, was your Fusion built at Flat Rock or Hermosillo? There are some issues with Fusions built at Flat Rock for which there is a TSB.

I qualified under all the conditions; Number of days in the shop and number of repair attempts... and they were notified they had a "final" repair attempt by my lawyer....

So I went to the other Ford dealership and asked the service manager if he could do anything and he said no, that once the claim was started he couldnt finish it. So he advised me to call ford and get it straightened out that way. He said if they want to send it there than they can, but they have to make that decision.

  • 3 weeks later...

...or bring it to another Ford dealer.

You know I tried this and Ford DENIED my warranty from another dealer saying I need to go back to them for service because its their workmanship! I hear you the dealer service depts are freaking incompetent to say the least. They always just told me they can't reproduce it and give me lip service.
