CuivreParc
Display shows "Key Not Recognized" on my 2013 Escape with IA key FOB. Tried both FOB's, tried placing the FOB on the steering column indentation. Called Ford service, the had me try everything again, had me check the main battery voltage (12.2 V) They sent out a tow truck, and had to drag the Escape out of my garage.(On nylon wedges) Ends up the battery was bad. (The one under the hood) So if you get this message, try jumping the battery before being towed.
akirby
Why did they have to drag it out on wedges? You can put it in neutral even with a dead battery. The procedure is in the OM. If you don't have a jumper box, get one. They're lifesavers and they're not super expensive. You can jump the vehicle no matter where it's parked. CuivreParc
You could not shift into neutral, at least not without a jumper box. I will have to look in the owners manual. Thanks
akirby
There is a manual release next to the shifter.
CuivreParc
In the owners manual page 149-150. You remove the shifter bezel with a flat screwdriver, then you can pull back on a white lever. The tow truck driver probable did not want to take a chance on scratching or breaking the bezel. To be honest that's really up to the owner to perform (and know how to do it or look it up). Every vehicle is different and it's not reasonable for the tow truck driver to know how to do every vehicle (or take the time to figure it out). That's why it's called the owner's manual not the tow truck driver's manual.

But thats cool that they have those wedges.

bigbobsha
Did you have the wiring harness recall done?
CuivreParc
The fix was to replace the battery. (The one under the hood, not the key FOB) I had the wiring harness recall done after the key not recognized problem.
