Wow. C-Max has completely tanked. Odd to see Edge down so much as well. It had been really steady the previous several months. MKZ is down, but not really by much compared to previous months. Wasn't that 4000 from last year pretty much a launch anomaly?

No other real surprises.

63k F-Series

16.6k Explorer

26k Fusion

Focus down, C-Max down, MKZ down.

Not a bad month.

Well - that remains to be seen -

If the competition is up, and you are down, then it is a bad month. Also, the real competition is Toyota -not GM. We all know that GM is propped up.

Could this be the month that Toyota overtakes #2? And as for the "profit" comments are sure to come - last time I heard, Toyota was making very nice profits to go with their sales volume.

Eh, if not for 3-4 vehicles, the sales would have been up considerably. Bad month for those vehicles (well, MKZ was just off an unusually high month last year). The rest of the lineup actually performed quite well.

Should have MKC sales starting this month so that should help Lincoln, though I could see them hurting MKX sales until the new one launches.

Looking like the Fusion really didn't need a second production site at the sales volume it has leveled off at. Hopefully there are some package tweaks for it for 2015 it is getting confusion to order one with so many options, they really need a SEL again.

Explorer looks great considering it hasn't be updated at all in 5 years, looks like more and more Police dept are going with the Utility vs the Sedan. New Edge should help sales, don't know how much the facelifted Focus will help its sales.

OK Guys (Gals). W-H-Y ? ?

Chrysler and General Motors recorded April sales increases of 14% and 7%, respectively, while Ford sales fell 1%.

W-H-Y? We know that Chrysler had the new Jeep start to ship a few months ago, so #'s are increasing…but what can you definitely point to (like that) to show why Ford dropped and those other guys rose sales??

Thx

After being outsold by Ram last month by a few units, Silverado is back and outsold Ram by just over 6k units.

Silverado 42,755

Ram 36,674

F-Series 63, 387

Sierra 17,246

F-Series outsells Silverado and Sierra combined.

Not really. About 2/3 of the models in Ford and Lincoln's lineup saw declines. The Explorer, F-Series, and Transit Connect kept April from being a dismal month.

Part of it is explained by a big decline in daily rental sales, but retail sales were also down 1% in a month that should have been a recovery month from slow winter sales.

Ford had better April last year?

Ford did not launch any new volume products this year so it's not a huge surprise the sales are flat overall.

GM sales are up because they've goosed the incentive on their previously slow selling pickup trucks. Chrysler has hot new Cherokee.

Umm, the new one hasn't been out that long.

Did you actually look at the numbers? All of the increases were negated by basically 4 vehicles: Focus, C-Max, MKZ, and Edge.

With MKZ a new model and sales down 24% and Fusion a hot "somewhat new" model and sales down 1%, it seems to me that this is a concern. Ford trucks saw growth last month while Ford car deliveries declined 8.5 percent Sure F series is high, but still. Not that great month overall.

Not a great month - exactly!

Don't know how anyone can spin the fact that industry was up about 9% overall but Ford was down 1% as a "good" month.

And again, the real competition; Toyota +13%, Nissan +18% - we all know that GM is propped up and Fiat/Chrysler's only growth is Trucks and Jeeps.

I am not saying "doomsday" or "end of the world" I am simply saying what is true - substantial industry growth is going to the competition and will need to be addressed.

MKZ is over a year old - not a new model. You have to look at anomalies in last year's sales and what is happening now with incentives from other mfrs.

If the other mfrs are pulling ahead sales with big incentives then that's not a big concern.

Such crow here. It went from "cant wait for GM to crash and burn" to " uum Toyota is the real competition/GM is proped by trucks". What's the excuse when GM outsells Ford again this year with recalls and a BK while at a profit ?.

Year to date sales are more important, there was a spile in MKZ sales in 2013 after delay of supply

so far this year MKZ sales are 12,272 versus 7,770 for April 2013, that's a 57.9% increase.

In the sales conference Ford highlighted the fact that Daily Rental sales are down almost 24% compared to April last year

maybe fewer fleet sales answers a lot of those questions with lower car sales..

On the plus side, those lost car sales were almost replaced by a rise in truck sales.

As a frame of reference, Ford is still only around 40,000 sales behind GM.

I have analyzed some figures to put some of the confusion into perspective.

The carmakers who this year are outperforming the market include the following; Chrysler FCA, Nissan and Subaru. The market is up 3% while Toyota is up 2% and GM is flat. So the marketshare skew is the result of the former three, not GM or Toyota.

Ford's numbers play out like this;

4 month market share;

2013 16.2%

2014 15.4%

April market share;

2013 16.5%

2014 15.1%

For Ford to have kept 2014, 4 month share at 16.2%, they would have had to have sold an additional 41,543 vehicles this year. If they had, mk share would be 16.2% rather than the 15.4%, or sales need to be up 5.2% rather than being off 2% for the year.

For the month of April Ford would have had to have been up 1.2% rather than down almost 1% to maintain their 2014, 4 month share of 15.4%, or up 2,571 units over last year, or selling 4,200 units more in April than they had.

If Ford were to have had April mk share of 16.5% as they had last year, they would have had to have sold an additional 19,209 vehicles.

Not big numbers in reality.

Besides, I've read that some buyers are holding off waiting for the new Mustang, Focus and other new models from Ford.

Well GM did take a $1.3 billion hit against profits for projected recall losses and yes they did eek out a $125 million profit for the quarter

while Ford netted $989 Million even after dumping over $400 million into warranty reserves.

GM should be outselling Ford and the fact that it's only by at most, 40,000 units a month can be put down to a great effort by Ford brand.

Jus stop and think about those two facts for a moment and you will see the hallmarks of One Ford efficiency.
