alpinedaddy
Hi all, Just wondering how the 2.0 is doing in real world driving conditions? Playing the waiting game on my ordered Fusion so figure I'll try to get some stats. Thanks in advance, James
Fallom
450 miles on mine, entirely city driving (20 minutes to drive 6 miles on my daily commute). I get 21.5 MPG avg. Obviously there's the break in time to consider but it's what I've got so far. Edited April 17, 2014 by Fallom
rp2388
I have about 2600 miles on mine now. Average on short commutes of about 4 miles each way is roughly 22 mpg. On the road, though, I can get up to 35+ cruising in light/no traffic going at 75 mph. I think what's important to consider when looking at mpg is actual fuel use. While 22 mpg might seem low, if you're only driving 8 miles per day, actual fuel consumption would be right around .36 gallons per day. If you get 35 mpg but drive 30 miles per day, your fuel consumption would be .85 gallons per day. (mpg/miles driven). It all depends on how much you're driving. alpinedaddy
Great way to put it! My father-in-law actually just bought one off the lot and was stating he's getting 35-37mpg. 90% highway though. Says the k&n filter added 2mpg. Bailey151
Not sure of the difference between 2013 & 2014 given it's the same EPA rating. About 14,000 on the clock & 49 fillups lifetime is 25.47mpg, highest is 30.40mpg. Avg commute is 20 miles of two lane 65(ish) with stoplights. Ford claims "average" is 26mpg & I get 25.47 = I'm okay with it. 2.0 is pretty much a pleasure to drive given the high torque @ low rpm (max @ 3k) = easy every day driver. Biggest complaint is large torque steer if you drop the hammer from a start. FWIW - previous vehicle lifetime was about 39mpg so they all suck to me. Great way to put it! My father-in-law actually just bought one off the lot and was stating he's getting 35-37mpg. 90% highway though. Says the k&n filter added 2mpg. So he's 2-4mpg over the EPA rating? Do you like your FIL? Want to be able to make him look foolish by explaining exactly how a filter change is irrelevent on a turbo charged engine? (let alone a POS k&n) (or if you like him you can just chuckle to yourself)
Hydro
Our 2014 2.0L has 5,000 miles on it. It avg's 22mpg with 70% highway driving. We've taken it on a few small road trips 150 miles 98% freeway and I couldn't bust 30 mpg at 68-70mph. I got tired of driving in the slow lane and being passed so I kept up with traffic 70-78 mph and it averaged 26.8 mpg for the entire 300 mile trip. We don't do well with EB engines. My truck avg's 13 mpg 50/50 driving. I was so disappointed they didn't offer the NA V6 anymore (only in MKZ). Our last Fusion 3.0L V6 did 32 mpg on road trips going 75-80 mph and felt just as quick as this car.

I have 2013 with just over 10K on the odometer and this has been my results as well. My daily commute to work is 4 miles each way and average 22MPG on those trips. My longer trips down to VA I get about 35-37 MPG depending on conditions and traffic.
Hydro
^ how do you guys do that? Just putting the weight of my foot on the gas pedal makes the active mpg meter drop below 20 mpg. Then I'll feather it to get back up to 70-75 and the only time it goes past 30 mpg is when I let off to coast for a few seconds. I now Cali gas is the worst for MPG, but we don't see any advantage with the EB engines. Wonder if the 19's have anything to do with the so-so mileage? The motor break-in is also BS. Never saw an increase with ANY of my current or past vehicles. The best was for my truck. Every forum said there was a EB break-in period of 5,000 & 10,000 miles. Then you'll see a huge increase.... Nope, been low 13's since I picked her up. Edited April 17, 2014 by Hydro
jinx8402
I don't know what I was thinking when I said 35-37 lol. I don't get that high of MPG when highway cruising. If I'm doing a constant 55-60 I do get pretty close to 33/34 MPG, and closer to 30/31 when doing 65-70. Going 75+ it's closer to 28-30. Speed kills because the turbo is boost. All in all, I am pretty happy with what I am getting.
akirby
I was seeing 30 mpg on the highway at 75 mph. I'm sure it would have been 34-35 at 55 mph.
jinx8402
Also very important is the road itself. It seems even the tiniest of hills force your car into boost (instant gauge dropping from 30+ to 22MPG). The reverse is true as well. That said, I think the instant gauge is a blessing and a curse. It's good because it can help teach you to drive better by not being so heavy on the throttle, but bad at the same time because I bet each of my previous cars were the same way with hills (but you never knew because the instant gauge is relatively new). That and, It's still only a "guess" of what you are getting and shouldn't be used to determine your actually MPG at that instant.
cjh
I average 22 or so on 93 octane, but I generally drive my car like I stole it. Edited April 18, 2014 by cjh
guszern
Glad to see that most people are getting close to sticker. I'm waiting on my special order and was worried about real world numbers. A friend recently purchased a Fusion Hybrid and is not getting close to the sticker. She says its getting better but also the engine is getting more broken in. theoldwizard
This is only a couple MPG better than the 2013 2.5L ! Nice to have the power under your right foot when you want it, but that costs quite a bit of money !!
JScullin
I get 27.5 highway doing 70mph and 22-23 city.
cjh
I get 27.5 highway doing 70mph and 22-23 city. About the same here. Though the power is nice, its a bit sad my last car with a 3.2 V6 and 270HP got 31 on the highway.
Hydro
About the same here. Though the power is nice, its a bit sad my last car with a 3.2 V6 and 270HP got 31 on the highway. Yep, I was bummed the 3.5L was dropped. Hell, I would have taken the 3.0L V6 over the Boosted 4 banger any day of the week.
alpinedaddy
It is sad... im trading in my 12 mustang w3.7 v-6. 305hp and a got 24city /31-33 highway. Worth the trade for room and looks tho... so doesn't bother me that much. Would like higher 30- lower 40 though. Oh well. One day this year I'll get to test it. Lol
marjen
31k miles and still getting around 20 mpg. Mix of highway and around town. I live in CT and its rather hilly around here, just pressing the gas pedal down kills the mpg in this engine. I wish they had used a V6.
