Just like it was 50 years earlier.

To mark the 50th anniversary of the Ford Mustang on April 17, the automaker will mimic the 1965 stunt when it took apart the original Mustang, stuffed the pieces into an elevator and put the convertible back together for display on top of the Empire State Building.

A prototype of the all-new 2015 Mustang will be cut into pieces and ride the freight elevator to the observatory on the 86th floor. It will be reassembled in six hours and be on display April 16-17 so visitors to New York can be part of Ford’s celebration of 50 years of continuous pony car production.

thats cool, but the thing that still makes me scratch my head is how every other anniversary model was in a x4 or x9 model year, guess it took them half a century to figure out theyve been wrong for decades... BUT, if the 2019 comes out as the 55th anniversary, it wouldnt surprise me either...that new math I guess.

I've always been somewhat confused by it as well. I don't think Ford really knew the confusion they would cause for themselves down the road when they allowed the early '65's to be called "64 1/2's". Of course, I doubt they knew the Mustang would still be around now either.

Of course, it could have all been easily avoided if they just called the late model 65's '65 1/2's instead. At least then the VINs would still decipher more properly.
