2010 Limited 3V 4.6

Recommended Posts

Well after owning three new Explorers, the wife refused to go for a new one. Claims she couldn't see out of it-over the hood-or rear visibility. One of my daughter in laws has a new one and loves it but the wife said no way. No Edge, no Escape, Flex too big blah blah. Only vehicle she reallywanted was a new Pilot.

Well I got her to agree to a 2010 if I could find a clean one- and I did in one week . 2010 Limited with 27,300 miles. typical corporate lease deal. Leasing Co. in Atlanta, corporate customer in Rhode Island, lease is up after 36 mos and it goes to auction. First class Ford dealer in Exeter NH bought it. I paid top dollar but it IS like a new vehicle. the controls, headsets for the rear DVD player were still in plastic wrap. Ford Certified Program-100,000 mile, 7 year power train warranty.

My old one was a 4.6 2v 5 speed. this is a 3v 6 speed. Anyone know what the HP of the 3V is? ?what other vehicles was it in? The old one just turned 91,000 and the 4.6 was a quiet as day one. Hope the new one performs as well. So far, great driving vehicle- and the BS over Pilots has stopped!

I have the Eddie Bauer version of this truck. The HP of this engine is 292 @ 5700 and 315 Ft. Lb @ 4000 rpm. It is a great engine for the truck. I call it a detuned Mustang GT engine.

Have fun with it.

Thx for response. What a difference between the 5 spd 2v and this thing-glad she didn't want the new one-this for sure is last of a good thing if you like BOF, V-8 power.

The difference is the 5 speed is matted to the Cologne 4.0L V-6 and the one that you and I have is the modular 4.6L V-8 with the 6 speed transmission. I drove the V-6 and it was "ok," but once I got behind the wheel of the V8 and I wasn't even out of the parking lot and it was like I knew what I wanted. I told my salesman that if they tried to sell me a V6, I was going to walk.

I've driven all of the new ones and I'm glad that I purchased the truck that I got, but if I had to, I would go with the Sport, then the truck with the ecoboost 4 and then the V6. Even with the EcoBoost 6, I don't get the fun low end punch, there is torque steer and I saw it downshifting too much to keep it in the power zone.

Also sorry for the long response. I don't read these forums that much. I will follow this topic.

Read that last post over. He's not asking what the difference is. The 4.6L 16 valve engine came with a 5 speed transmission as well as the 4.0L V6. The OP was just stating what a difference it is between the old 2v 4.6/5R55 vs. the 3V 4.6/6R transmission.

The 4.0L would still be a dog with an 8 speed behind it.
