Buyout Employees for re-hire?

Hello everyone. I have a question and I was hoping I could find some direction here.

 

I took a buyout package in 2007 when I worked at WAP since 1999. With the outlook at the time, I was pretty scared of taking a chance and staying, unwilling to risk a layoff.

 

Things seem to be turning around a bit these days and rumor has it that we, (buyout employees) take precedence over street hires. (I have no verification on this at all, it's just what I have been told, and even they weren't 100% sure.) Also, apparently I am still a local 900 member. I still get things in the mail regarding union business and whatnot.

 

I was wondering if anyone knew anything about this, or knows who to get in contact with for consideration in MAP. Most of the people I knew have since retired and I would like to get back into Ford. I know the current local 900 president but I am unsure if this is the correct way to go, as I don't want to step over anyones head or make anyone mad. I was pretty good with a lot of folks from the union side and the salary side, but getting in touch with anyone is proving to be one hell of a challenge.

 

Any help at all is appreciated.

Lots of luck with that one. My understanding is that when you took the buyout, you gave up ANY and ALL rights to be rehired by Ford. The only way I can see this happening, is if you are willing to pay back the ENTIRE package you accepted upon your leaving the company. You made a decision...now you have to live with it. Lay-off would have been better as you would have still recieved pay, and benefits, and be working today.

I was told that only education buyouts would be reconsidered and that retiree buyouts and separation packages would not. I know two buyout people who tried to fill openings and were told they could not, because the company had issues with the possiblity of them receiving another buyout in the future. Plus you already traded your pension for cash upfront and then if they rehire you and you get your 85 points you'd be able to get that pension back.

Hmm, it was my understanding that I was just relinquishing all of my seniority and that the legalese basically said that if I ever did re-hire, I would be starting from square one. My package did

 

say specifically that I am eligable to re-hire after two years. I guess it was foolish of me to believe that people with my seniority date would have been separated from the company

 

regardless, as I was told. I guess its off to the local to see whats going on.

 

I was also told that education buyouts would be considered before all others if they received an education in any type of discipline that Ford was looking for.

I almost feel bad for people that got scared and took the buyout with no plan on what to do, and mostly didnt use it to get themselves in a position where working in a factory would be a downgrade, almost.

 

I dont believe the company should hire anyone back that took a buyout, i consider a person that took an educational buyout and became an engineer or got a management degree and wanted a rehire into salary. but people that took the money and ran, should keep on running.

Hughes, you are right. I wonder how many buyout people read the fine print. Ex-Ford employees can come back if they received a degree, It doesn't have to be something related to Ford. I work with three people at LAP that took the education buyouts, got their degrees and came back, two from MI and one here in Louisville. They never worked in their fields/majors and wished they never took the buyout...one is trying to get into management. Jay22, if you can not find a good paying job in Mi, move to another state. Don't let not having a job with Ford keep you from pursuing another career path. I wish you the best, God Bless you..

You should have taken the money they gave you to get a degree, and reapplied for a salary position. I reinvented myself, and now make what I did working at Ford. At the end of next year I will have an Engineer's license issued by the United States Coast Guard. Unfortunately Ford is not rehiring separated employees. Most of the people that left are the type that always look for the easy way out. You know, the ones that run to medical if they don't want to do a job. In the industry I work in currently I get my winters off. There is a 2 to 3 month period where I sit on unemployment. I also have good relations with the local chairmen. Ford was hiring people to replace us, and I was looking for temporary work to fill the gap while I was home. They required people to have already passed the AON test to work as temps. I was informed that Ford was not rehiring separated employees. I had a spotless record while I worked at Lorain, and OHAP too, never disciplined, and never missed a day, or was ever even late the whole time I worked at Ford. Good luck, but I am sure you are wasting your time going down a dead end road.

 

 

Langston, you don't have a clue what you are talking about. If we were vested in the pension plan, then we are still entitled to what we accrued. I have already received communications from Ford giving me my eligibility age. However I am in the process of building a new house. If they would like to buyout of their pension liability I would consider a serious offer and use that money towards my new home.

 

We still get A/X plan discounts too. I generated 1 A, and 1 X plan pin since I found out that the benefit is still active. I was able to get an engineer I work with to buy an F-Series. He use to only buy Toyota. That's right, gone, but still selling Ford products. I appreciate everything Ford has done for me, and I will keep my loyalties! I bet I can exhaust my PINs every year. I use to be in the Ford Inner Circle every year.

Dude I'm still working for Ford. I deliver the taconite pellets to Severstal that goes to produce the steel that makes Ford, GM, and Chrysler products. The family that owns this company takes care of me, because I am damn good at my job. I continually am going to school. Last year I got my Tankerman endorsement to work on a tank ship, and this winter I will be working on the Atlantic ocean delivering fuel for another company owned by the same family during the annual layup. My life is pretty much set. If I reapply to Ford in the future it will only be to try to come back to a land job, and work in the same Ford facility as my wife. Also I would be applying for an Engineers job, not production work. Either that or if I get the steam time I will move to a power plant near home. My credentials buy me a job, not the union, unlike you.

So Furious one auto should not even be posting here.Sounds like he has a good job and just wants to DUMP his version of 'the working class riot act' on the UAW.Hey guy,we got enough opinions already.AS FAR AS being hired back after taking a buyout.What I hear is that the facility you were working at when you took a buyout cannot hire you back but you might {spell that 'politics'} get hired back at another facility.How this saves Ford money is beyond me.Wonder why the stock cant move up!

Furious....you never cease to amaze us on this forum with your "success story"....why tell it over and over....it seems to me we read this same BS from you about every 6 weeks...this is supposed to be about Ford work and workers, not used to be Ford. Give us all a break and go tell your wife your story of success...I'm sure she cares more than we do....but she has probably heard it a few times also

I am also sick of people who call themselves engineers. An operator or mechanic is not an engineer. A degreed engineer supervising people is not a practicing engineer. This practice cheapens the profession and gives competent engineers a bad reputation.

Hey while you are crunching numbers with your engineering degree, figure out a new design for the brake line locator clip on the rear differential of the Econoline. It has been inadequate since '04. They install it on the pedastool line, and I had the honor of reinstalling it once it came loose on the frame line. I'm not so sure that a degree is the equivalent of real world experience. Many employers will hire certified employees over degreed graduates just because they are full of theory, and have no practical experience. How bout the degreed educated dummies they hire for foreman, Vs. the management that come from the floor. There is a distinct difference.
