The liftgate feature didn't seem to work wel the first time. 0-60 in 8.7?? seems a little slow, but then again they said the 2.0 will out power all current competitors. I thought toyota had like 270 hp in the rav? Maybe the turbos really help the low end torque.
Yeah, I don't think the first guy knew what he was doing trying to activate the liftgate. And as far as 0-60 goes, they timed it with an iPhone. Not exactly accurate...

For safety reasons and to avoid false signals, the lift gate will only open when the sensor in the center of the rear bumper and under the bumper detect motion at the same time. He was off to the side the first couple of times he swung his leg.The liftgate feature didn't seem to work wel the first time.

I'm assuming it won't work when the vehicle is in gear either? Heck, probably shouldn't be permitted to work if the vehicle is running at all.

Probably not. The power hatch (the button inside at least) in our Flex won't work if it is not in park. You can't even close it if the car is in gear and the hatch is open.

Have found that lockout system kind of annoying on my Edge a few times actually. I'll hit the button to close the hatch, walk around to the driver's door, get in, and then instinctively hit the start button before the hatch is 100% closed. What does it do? Instead of just finishing closing, it opens back up again. GRRRR. Gotta turn the car off, wait for the liftgate to open all the way, then hit the close button, wait for it to close all the way and then hit the Start button again.

It was also the heavy AWD model with 2 substantial sized guys in the California heat. And a non-scientific timer. Take it with a grain of salt.
The edge ecoboost 2.0 does it in 7.3 seconds with a curb weight of 4000 pounds.
The land rover evoque with the ecoboost 2.0 does it in 7.1 seconds with a curb weight of 3902 pounds.
The FWD escape ecoboost 2.0 is 3600 pounds, so it should be in the 6 second range.

I'm sure that's the case, otherwise it would be a major safety issue with cargo falling out and exhaust getting in. I saw either a video, or it may have been a Ford Media release a while back explaining how the hands free tailgate works. It showed, or stated, that the two sensors need to detect motion at the same time so it didn't open when an animal or another object passes under the car.

Yeah, I've done the exact same thing, its a PITA at times. I don't have to shut the car off, though, just put it in park.
Of course, we could just get out and close it manually, but that requires too much work!

Ha ha...in the 3.5 years we've had our Flex, I can probably count on one hand the number of times we've closed the hatch manually.

So generally speaking everybody is noting the superb power and handling with a quiet and solid ride, marred only by the somewhat numb steering feel (you should feel the old Escape's steering, eegads!).
My concern is the ride feel which is noted as surprisingly firm, but I welcome a much more confident Escape as I did with the firmer riding 2011 MKX. This is possibly an area that will concern the heart of the segment shoppers which likely prefers the wallowy ride on those short test-drives.
Overalll, I think we have an SUV of the year contender assuming there are no quality or launch hiccups.

Our Expedition works the same way.

That would be annoying. Do you have remote start? Will it open when while running if started remotely?

Our Expedition does that too. How could it be a "safety" feature to REOPEN the hatch if the vehicle is put in gear and starts moving before it fully closes.
