I have little interest in Lincoln but how long has this been going on? They are dragging Ford down while Ford lets bread and butter products go by the wayside. I hated to see Merc go but if Lincoln dies I wont shed a single tear. Lincoln barely has a pulse right now. Do you honestly think they are making money? I dont. It is miraculous they had an increase given the products.

How long? Hmm. Not even a year? I don't see how they are "dragging Ford down" given the platform and powertrain similarities.

As for making money, if they weren't, they'd have already been gone. Do you think Cadillac makes significantly more money for GM only selling 60,000 units per year more?

You mean like the 2011 Fiesta, the all new 2012 Focus, the all new 2013 Escape already shown, the all new 2013 Fusion to be shown next week, and the all new Explorer already selling strongly? Are those the vehicles going by the wayside? You truly are Rip Van Winkle, aren't you? Go back and read all the threads on new Ford products please. I know it's hard to keep up with them.

Mercury was just badges/grilles stuck on a Ford body, and buyers caught on ages ago. Now Ford is selling 'Titanium' trim level cars fairly well.

And 'Ford lets [products] fall by the wayside'? Are you stuck in 2008? or maybe 1978? F Series is 'bread and butter' for sure and has not at all 'fallen'.

Rubbish, Ford brand has been lavished with products and they are still coming, you can see where the cash has been spent,

Given Mulally's edict that every vehicle sold will make a profit and with that,
I'd say there are compelling reasons not to get in front of the Boss, wouldn't you?

I miss Mercury also, and was upset about its demise like many, but crying in your beer only makes your beer taste lousy. We all have to get over it and move on. Sure hasn't hurt sales any and reduces development and marketing costs of maintaining two brands that are essentially the same. I would think even the GM loyalists would have to admit that Mulally knows what he is doing and has set up Ford to be profitable long term even in down market.

Under different circumstances, I could see a full mercury line flourishing and really adding to Ford's bottom line but I also
accept that Ford chose the less complex route eliminating distraction to keep single minded focus on the Ford brand

Whats even sadder is the overall Lincoln sales YTD. Pathetic comes to mind even though they are up for the year. Fix it or kill it now.

No, whats even sadder for you is FORD #1 USA

Ranger out sells Taurus, Mustang, Fiesta, and Flex YTD. :stirpot: And now, its gone forever.

Madness indeeeed, but know where you are coming from

Mundane Mondeo's are still allowed to exist in Fords of Europe's line-up with 2,500 European sales last month, when our good ole RWD Cortina use to sell 33,000-55,000 just in the UK only, in a good month. It to broke and still holds the British car sales record for the most car sales in one year 1979 when it averaged 16,500 UK sales per month as it faced the axe by Ford.

Mondeo 2,500 November European sales is very worrying, as this will probably be Ford World Car just like the Escape 23,000 sales now becomes a European Kuga with 4,500 sale. By fitting power plants that are haft the cubic capacity and cutting down weight are the real good things about the new Escape it would have improved MPG massive way in a old escape as well, Ford though will put down excellent MPG its boring dull bland bullshitting aerodynamics, you might as well put big 50's wings on it just to add to the bull. Meantime in the future SUV Skoda's new boxy shaped Yeti that is more practical with more headroom and legroom in the rear seats will give first class travel and comfort, the boxy Yeti averages 61.5 MPG outguns the super slick aerodynamic Kuga's averages 47 MPG.

Come 2014 won't we looking the new US Escape, Vertrack Kuga with sales of 3,000 and wondering just how Ford managed to shift 23,000 US sales every month of the old boxy (so called outdated) Escape that everybody brought and liked in big number.

20,428 FWD Mondeo's sales a year is as good as it gets these days or 1,702 a month in 2011.

Building same Junk status C rated heartless no soul Mondeo same constant boredom won't lead to growth in Europe, it will just create a constant depression.

Just 1 awesome RWD From Ford in Europe, will end Greeks bailouts, end lost AAA ratings, get folk buying cars again get the worlds economy movin again, put RWD fun rather than FWD monotony back on Europes roads , use classic car styling again, rather than appliance. make cars that are fun exciting & real blast to drive again

Make something just one RWD car worth buying getting out of bed in the morning to work for, aspire to own, something worth spending money on, rather than left out sitting on the sidelines doing absolutely nothing locked out of Ford of Europe's showrooms.

Agree Nick 2,500 European Mundane Mondeo sales last month is not working for Ford, axe it.

Ford used to be number 1 best selling car in Europe with the RWD Taunus/Cortina, today Ford are number "nowhere" with the anonymous nonentity Mondeo.

Indeed even the RWD BMW 3 Series BMW 5 Series & Mercedes C class quality low volume quality car producers all have double the sales YTD of the mass produced Mondeo, when RWD is on offer choice and given today in Europe.

Let have at least one quality prestigious RWD car from Ford in Europe on offer to buy.

Course that volume was running through three different plants (Chicago, Atlanta and Wixom), which tends to diminish the value of that volume.

And my answer to you is that none of those vehicles survived the purge of 2006.
What does that tell you about the profitability of Atlanta making 200,000 /year right up to closure?

How did the Mazda 3 just become the Aussie best selling car down under for 2011 JDP, do they assemble them in Australia just interested.

Good to see the RWD Falcon was still Fords best selling car down under in 2011 JPD, and well done to the Ranger (No 15), Territory (No16), Focus (No 19) and the Fiesta (No21) best seller down under in 2011 (What no Mundane, what happened to the wonderful Mundane Mondeo JPD another nowhere result?)

Mazda 3 is well liked in Australia but the 3 is by far their best seller...

New Falcon and Territory diesel are commanding full retail with no discounts in site, recess at Broadmeadows started on the 16th
and Ford basically sold out of all stock before Christmas, there's hardly any 2011 plated Falcons and Territory around.
More "Falcon is dying" stories by the press because they didn't get the right answers from Ford brass......

Holden on the other hand are over producing Commodore and Cruze and selling both with huge discounts just to get sales glory...

Mazda 3 is well liked in Australia but the 3 is by far their best seller...

I bet Holden must be livid and pissed of that Mazda have just outsold the Commodore knocking them off the top spot in 2011, is the Mazda 3 made in Australia JPD?

2012 looks like another shit year in Europe JPD we getting new huge EU carbon taxes coming to help bailout the gangster banksters and southern Europe countries oops sorry l mean't another Global Warming stealth tax to save Al Gore and his polar bears. A friend who regularly take a winter break down under was complaining saying his trip has already been hit with a £1200 Air Passenger Duty for his family now with a £120 EU Carbon Tax as well means now he will be hit with £1,320 in taxes and thats just before you start paying for your ticket. Still no news on what they are gonna do with the Carbon Tax on cars yet. Brits are really cutting back on car use, we used 14 billion lites less fuel in 2011 than we used in 2010.

Happy New Year JPD, Chevy are offering huge great discounts in the UK as well, but nobody seem to want to buy their Korean made junk here 900 Chevy sales month last ha ha. Lets hope this year things improve can't see it myself in the UK we live & work to pay tax, but those sales numbers of pick-ups Stateside this month are absolutely amazing.

Ford Apple moment in time when profits were huge

Creme de la creme

Mk 1 RWD Ford Escort RS a car that inspires the heart & soul

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AaMelv_Aj-M

1968 was a great year for Ford Mo Co 20,000,000 Millions AAA+ Escort car sales that followed off the back off its "Creme de la creme" reputation

Escorts 20,000,000 Millions sales numbers that have never been bettered by any other "F O R D" car

Ford Escort Worlds best selling car 7 times in a row

Mk1 Escort Fords Apple moment in time - AAA+ Apple shares $2 to $500 the way to go, produce products with heart & soul that inspires gets economic growth.

S&P Moody AAA+ rated profit generator Cortina 193,784 UK sales 16,148 a month as it faced the axe, those were the days my friend l thought they would never end as Mary Hopkins once sung, 193,784 RWD Cortina UK sales a year would never end.

20,428 FWD Mondeo's sales a year is as good as it gets these days or 1,702 a month in 2011.

Building same Junk status C rated heartless no soul Mondeo same constant boredom won't lead to growth in Europe, it will just create a constant depression.

Not in the UK top 10 Mondeo is dead in the UK according to the Daily Mail LINK. But alive on BON.

RWD BMW 3 Series made No6 in 2011 UK sales chart

Mondeo 2010

30,111 yearly sales, 2,500 average per month in 2010

27,704 diesel Mondeo 2010 sales

2,411 gasoline Mondeo 2010 sales

27,002 Mondeo sales in the low no profit making fleet dumping/Rental sales

(Nick says no profits markets, high depreciation & residuals),

3,109 Private retail Mundane Mondeo buyers

2012 FOE Big losses, GM Europe will report big huge losses the way to go - boring products & boring dull kinetic styling not giving us the products we want? Something thats small fun to drive RWD, a classic styled car a car that inspirers with soul, not never ever changing eternal boredom on 4 wheels.

Just 1 awesome RWD From Ford in Europe, will end Greeks bailouts, end lost AAA ratings, get folk buying cars again get the worlds economy movin again, put RWD fun rather than FWD monotony back on Europes roads , use classic car styling again, rather than appliance. make cars that are fun exciting & real blast to drive again

.

Make something just one RWD car worth buying getting out of bed in the morning to work for, aspire to own, something worth spending money on, rather than left out sitting on the sidelines doing absolutely nothing locked out of Ford of Europe's showrooms.
