Ford Motor Co. and the United Auto Workers have come to terms on a new four-year contract that trades annual pay raises for profit sharing and a signing bonus and promises thousands of new jobs building cars and trucks.

Ford commits to add 12,000 hourly jobs in its U.S. manufacturing facilities by 2015, including in-sourcing from Mexico, China and Japan; this is 5,750 hourly jobs more than the previously announced 7,000 U.S. positions to be added by year-end 2012

Ford pledges to invest $16 billion in the U.S. – including $6.2 billion for U.S. plants – to design, engineer and produce more new and upgraded vehicles and components by 2015

Ford says the agreement is fair to its employees and that it improves the company's competitiveness in the U.S.

Connect or Full Sized?

What about Ohio? I guess they'll still build E-250's and above there?

Ford has committed $1 billion to retool KCAP to build the new Transit Commercial van. The E-Series will be phased out over time since it can't meet new CAFE or emission rules later this decade. No mention of what happens to Avon Lake plant. Further news is that it's almost certain that Lincoln will get version of next generation Mustang as Ford will have to eventually compete with other luxury players in sporty RWD market. That Lincoln would probably go to AAI.

2001 Orient Red Metallic Porsche Boxster

OHAP is apparently slated for investment somewhere around $160M in the contract from what I've heard, so apparently something will be staying there.

The Ford Motor Company agreed to add 12,000 jobs and invest $6.2 billion in its United States plants in a new four-year labor contract with the United Automobile Workers union, the company said Tuesday.

It also will give most workers guaranteed bonuses of at least $12,000, raise entry-level wages by several dollars an hour and move some work to the United States from other countries. Ford said the jobs and investment numbers included 6,250 jobs and $2.4 billion that it had previously announced.

Hourly workers who have been with Ford for at least one year would be paid a bonus of $6,000 within weeks of ratification; newer workers would get $5,000, the same amount G.M. gave as a bonus to all 48,500 of its hourly workers.

Ford workers also would receive $1,500 in 2012, 2013, 2014 and 2015 in lieu of cost-of-living increases and $250 in each year of the contract if Ford vehicles meet quality targets. Profit-sharing checks were been increased, and the new formula would give workers $3,700 in November based on Ford’s performance in the first half of 2011.

Moving 650/750 to OHAP makes a ton of sense. When you figure that Ford can't drop the E-Series cutaway, cab/chassis, or chassis only models, it suddenly makes sense that you'd relocate the 650/750

I wonder if that means F650/F750 will get a more upright E-Series type cab instead of using F-Series SD cab, hmmmm...

One source said it's the Transit.

It is the transit

the 400 million dollar number to retool KCAP has been increased to 1 billion, that is more than ample to gut the entire plants and refurbish it to build such a large vehicle.

Ironically this was the product rumored to go to KCAP in the first place. I did not believe it because the level of investment was too small to meet the needs of the Transit.

1 billion is a huge commitment to this product.

Connect or Full Sized?

What about Ohio? I guess they'll still build E-250's and above there?

the cutaway is staying and the F650 and F750 are moving there to replace the E-series.

There AFAIK no product commited to KTP.

WATCH this space.

ford may be planning a major restructuring of their pickups,

See, Children, a Union and a major US manufacturer went into a room and when they came out, there were more jobs IN the USA and AMERICAN workers were getting performance bonuses and BOTH sides are happy with it. This without heavy-handed legislation, or over-the-top tax breaks, or legislative neutering of Labour, or a strike. THIS is how it's supposed to work in this country.
