Sway Bar & Tie Rods

Question for ya'll....

I drove my 2000 Ranger for tens of thousands of miles with the front sway bar tie rods broken. I thought it rode and handled fine - the worst part was my wife saying it sounded like it was falling apart whenever she borrowed it to pick up mulch.

But before replacing the tires I thought I'd get replace the rods and get the front end aligned. Anyway, that's when I noticed the SEVERE tire wear on the inside edge of both front tires. I'll admit that since I knew I was riding on borrowed time on the tires, I was driving in a rather spirited fashion arround corners.

So the question is: Is it obvious to the experts out there that broken tie rods mess up geometry control such that accelerated tire wear happens?
