fordwindsor
Can someone answer this. If you as a UAW Ford employee were on layoff and accepted a temp assignment to a plant slated for closure did you receive the full rate or a different rate than full. I am laidoff from Ford Windsor Ontario Operations and accepted a temp position at St. Thomas Assembly that is slated for closure next August. As temps we are being paid at 70% of the full rate (usually the starting rate). I have over ten years in with the company. We should be getting the full rate as the rest of the employees here. What is the UAW experience in a similiar situation?

After a certain amount of time I do believe you were supposed to top out at a certain wage but I am a Ford worker so I couldn't tell you what exactly that wage is. If you have 10 years in as a temp, you should currently be at your top out wage and if your not make a phone call. I can say tho from experience that when going from a parts plant to an assembly plant the wage for the Ford workers is slightly higher by a few cents. This is all I know sorry. qwertyuiop
The keyword is "Temporary". Unfortunately, regardless of what your situation is at your former plant (at least US-wise), having the word "temporary" or job code LTS (long-term supplemental) affixed to your name guarantees you an immediate pay cut. I would talk to your CAW bargaining rep and see if there is anything they can do for you, since you are still obviously working within the Ford system. If not, it's an unfortunate side effect of the job. Best of luck to you!

If there is language to support this action then I would appeal the acceptance of going to St Thomas because there was not full disclosure. PS You probably signed a form stating you understood the terms so check your personel file.

I am a regular Ford employee with almost 11 years in with the company who was on indefinite layoff until this temp position at St. Thomas Assembly was offered. They told us before going up about the pay rate which no one agrees with but with the other job prospects being bleak and with Ford/CAW on youir resume options are slim. This temp position is a new thing up here so I am interested as to what the UAW experience is. Ford employees should be paid the full wage regardless if temp. I feel like a second class citizen within my own company. I was called at 3pm on Tuesday and was in orientation the next morning. It is a 100 mile commute each way so we are all carpooling. This is the way it was explained to me by my commiteeman. Laid off windsor employees were sacrificed in order to secure a buy out or a transfer to OAC for STAP employees. The CAW(not ford) is only allowing laid off windsor employees to come to STAP as a gusture of good will ( hoping no one would come), friends and relatives was the desired choice. Talk to our plantchair. He'll set you straight. The CAW's last remaining core value. SOLIDARITY

I used to love that place.. LMAO. I use to live around the corner from Silvers when I was in my late teens to mid 20's. Just went back there this year after a long absence. The women are not the same. They had more personality and bodies back in the 80's and early 90's. Now they are all about how much money they can suck from you (pardon the pun). I had great times (OH the memories) with one girl(Silvers peeler) from Quebec who used to hang out with a few girls at my partying bachelor neighbour ( a mini Hugh Hefner). No, I don't possess the right equipment to work there.

I mainly worked at Essex Aluminum plant across the street from Essex Engine and a sister plant to Windsor Aluminum that should be the plant that the article addresses(unusual bad reporting on the CBC's part). We had no option to vote it through as that plant would have closed next year. Nemak is getting away from its' heavy association with Ford. The new contract ( a shelf agreement) will only see light if Nemak secures new work for the plant ( it is a supplier and can not sustain big 3 wages which Ford was subsidising as its employees worked there). New work will be manned by new Nemak employees which can be laid off or ex-Ford workers at the new rate. Laid off Ford employees will retain recall rights back to Ford if things ever get better with Ford Windsor Operations.
