Eliminatorxr7
Here is one for Ford, how about an online order tracking system accessible by the customer. I have heard that GM and Chrysler both have a system for tracking, while Ford is lagging behind. I have to rely on my dealer to give me updates, and even then they are behind (my Mustangs status in Dealer Connection Vehicle Visibility hasn't been updated since 8/5 according to the dealer). No one is able to tell me where my car is, why is has been delayed or any info what-so-ever. Needless to say, I am getting very disappointed. My online window sticker says that the car was made on 08/06/09, another Mustang with the same build date is sitting on the dealer lot, mine is sold as soon as it gets here, but the one that is going to sit around for who knows how long shipped from the factory and is sitting there on the lot. Has there been a hold in Flat Rock on Kona Blue Mustangs? I don't know.
rmc523
Many (including myself) have wanted such a system from Ford. I guess they still don't have one....
caeser4
It would sure make things easier for the buyer, and you would think for the dealership as well.
gbastles
Yeah, I can't see how this would be terribly difficult, either. The entire plant system is computerized, and and it registers in the system when a particular part is installed. Don't know why a dumbed down version of this info can't be made available to the consumer.
mustang-92
If you look at the interest elsewhere on this forum about tracking, it would seem that such a system would be a great benefit to the buyer. It is exciting to anticipate a new vehicle, but accurate information (or any information) would be nice.

Definitely for the buyer and people wouldn't be bugging Cyberdman for updates...
BossRatt
It would sure make things easier for the buyer, and you would think for the dealership as well. Have to agree. Delership isn't always as helpful as they might be.

aneekr
Ford already offers online order status for FIN (fleet) customers (click the Ford Fleet logo in my signature). It shouldn't be difficult to extend this to non-FIN customers.
Buffalohead
That would keep a lot of dealers phones from constantly ringing!
jdaallen
The information is out there for the taking. You just have to be persistant in going after it. The dealer has daily information available if they want it or want toget it and give it to you. I just took delivery of an'11 GT 500 (3rd GT 500 order) and I knew each Thursday morning exactly where my order was, as I did with my '07s. However I agree there should be an actual program out there specifically for customer tracking.
BS Racing
Why not have a live web cam when the truck rolls off the line also so you could see your truck roll off the line!!! If you knew the position of your truck was on the line and could know when it would come off the line you could pull a screen shot of your truck as it was finished . Sure, right after we install the webcam following you around when you're working. See the problem? People work here to build cars, not become contestants on Big Brother. If Ford is anything like Boeing they already have cameras, and seeing as how Allen came from Boeing A simple static cam on the end of the line wouldn't be anything like Big Brother. :shades:

I stopped in my dealer to get my order number and get an update on my order. No update on the order. Got home and called Ford CS and got my Vin# then got my window sticker off line. That was last week. Still haven't got an update from the dealer.

When you say you are talking to your "dealer" who are you really talking to? It makes a BIG difference what role your person has at the dealership. Sales staff don't know squat about the ordering process on a vehicle and in many cases the management does not want the sales staff to know much. Their roll is to sale period. To get the wanted information about your order, you must be communicating with management directly and not thru a salesperson. Someone at the dealership is responsible for tracking orders and has or can get what you want and that's who you need to find. Good Luck
SoFL05GT
Yes, it would awesome to have a system that retail customers could use themselves. I tracked a couple myself using Ford's phone system, which we used to call ERL (Evil Robot Lady). It wasn't meant for retail customers, but everyone had the number. We no longer even have ERL, and I have a 2011 Mustang on order again. It's our 6th new Mustang in less than 10 years.

Good Luck This is true, the sales people do not have access to the info, at the dealership we go to, they tell me they have to get a manager to get any info for me. I called today, and my sales guy was with a customer, so he said he didn't have any updates..meanwhile I had gotten our sticker online, without any of his help.. It would be Great to have an online status, like UPS...but I suppose we should all just learn patience...:-)
junior2777
I can't think of another item other than possibly buying a house that comes with as much anticipation...having a way to track it, even if it updated once a week would be AWESOME!!!
