mnmustang Posted July 13, 2008 Share Posted July 13, 2008 Although my Mustang quest ended with a 2008 Bullitt I couldn't be happier with, it was the convertible 07 GT-H I rented that got me started. A reason I opted for the Bullitt was it's such a bargain, and the 07 GT-H's were predictably high when they were released. From what little I've been watching on E-bay it looks like they're taking the path of the 06's and really going down in price. Anyone tracking them more closely as to availability & price? I still think it's a very cool car, especially the convert. I'm fairly amazed they are stalling out at about 35K on Ebay, if they are even getting that high. I suspect many, like me, though I loved the car are put off buy the wear and tear these cars have endured and the amount of work needed on some of them. Even limited-production vehicles often take a hit shortly after production, only to increase dramatically later. I would say $35K is a pretty significant price for a used rental car though, especially if you compare that to off-fleet Mustang V6's and regular GT's. Some have said "but they're built to take a lickin'," but you'd hate to get one that had the tar beat out of it. What does intrigue me is the very low mileage on some of these cars - one was on E-bay with 7,000 miles and I've seen & heard of ones for sale with even fewer miles, but I suppose that doesn't mean they haven't been beat. Your point on resale is very well taken, and frankly, I'm not sure any of these cars we're buying, at least I'll speak for myself, are necessarily "investment vehicles." My friend's Ford GT, maybe. My Bullitt, probably not, at least not in the foreseeable future. What's been hard when I was looking more seriously at the GT-H, and I guess I still would consider an 07, is ... what is the actual value of these? Obviously they aren't worth the $250,000 #1 brought, but both the 06's & 07's started by bringing over $50K and within 6 mos were down in the 30's. Pretty crazy for a true limited production run of 500 cars. Does it matter it's been a rental? Some would say that makes it worth less, some would say, in true GT-H tradition, that's what makes it a GT-H. How much does it matter it's a Shelby? Does that add to the value ... or has Ford & Shelby about run the "special edition" thing into the ground? I don't know the answers, and one of the reasons I opted for the Bullitt was the price was pretty absolute, at least within a pretty limited range + or - of MSRP, rather than the obvious gouging (sorry, perjorative term) that has occurred with some Shelbys. I was uncomfortable not being able to put my finger on what a GT-H was "really" worth. I guess whatever someone will pay, but that makes it hard if one's not got $ to throw away. Time will tell.
