Thanks, Ice! What interests me particularly is that the I-4 engine seems to also be available in the Limited models. My wife and I love our "03 Escape XLT but might be tempted to trade if we could get the 4 cyl. with heated leather seats, and since I have inadvertently backed into some things over the last few years, the reverse sensors make a lot of sense too. We'd also appreciate a somewhat quieter car.

What I'd like to know more about is the 6-speed trans, especially the layout of the gear selector. We live in a hilly area, and also where snow and ice plague our winter driving. Therefore, I like to have some control over downshifting for engine braking. Altho many have criticized the 4-speed automatic, it is true that you can select any of the gears as necessary. Pusing O/D lockout accesses 3rd and locks up the clutch, good for mild and fast hill descents. If more braking is needed, you can directly select 2nd or even 1st gears. Now with 6 ratios available, I wonder what access will be available. The Fusion, for example, seems to only provide an "L" choice (no O/D lockout) which I suspect goes directly to 2nd (am not completely sure). On the other hand, in the Edge, the O/D lockout apparently gets you to 4th but also accesses "Grade Assist" which allows lower ratios if brakes are applied. So I'm now wondering what the Escape transmission control will allow. If it is as crippled as in the Fusion, that would almost be a deal breaker for me.

Looks like Ford's "underestimating horsepower at first announcement" tradition lives on. I see on the Escape and Fusion the addition of a Sport Blue color...can't wait to see it. The blue on the 08 Escape is to my mind an awesome color and I hope the new color is similar...it would great on a Fusion.

2009 Escape Order Guide... Now Available!

Thanks for the link ICE

Looks like my broker will be back Monday to help me place my order on the '09 FEH. I'm looking at a Limited W/Nav, running boards, Black Pearl, so far. Thought they eliminated the 110V outlet, but I just found it is now standard equipment on all FEH's.

Thanks again ICE, I'm getting down to placing an order on a '09 FWD Limited Escape Hybrid. My understanding is the Fast turn Order 8 (FTO 8) can include the Navigation System, but at an additional cost of code 60N which is $2395. This would add on the the $30,635 base Limited Escape Hybrid plus $695 shipping to give a MSRP of $33,725, correct? That leaves tax and tag which will bring the vehicle to around $36,000 bar no other price additions/reductions correct? The dealers in my area want MSRP with no dealer fees, any recommendations to get a better price in these hard times?

Gary... Your figures look right but I wish I could give you suggestions on getting a Hybrid at less than MSRP. Most Dealers are fighting with Ford just to get sold, retail orders scheduled for production, let alone having any Hybrids in stock for prospective customers to look at and drive. There are some Markets where there are Hybrids in stock but most see only a handful of units over an entire Model Year. I'm not looking to start a discussion on ADM's as I'm personally against the policy on any vehicle but it's a reflection of the supply/demand situation in many Markets for particular vehicle lines. Your Market may be different and have better Hybrid availability which may help you in negotiating a better price. I'd also suggest searching other Ford dealers outside of your immediate Market.

Again, I wish I could give you better information on the Hybrid pricing situation but I can only tell you what I've seen and experienced in the multiple Markets I'm involved in.

Thanks for you quick reply Ice

It seems the confusion is on the first page of the ordering guide under FTO package contents. On that page, it indicates the navigation system is part of the FTO 8 package. On page 7 of the ordering guide, it states the navigation system is optional. According to a quote I got, the navigation system was listed as a $2395 option with the U49 4DR FWD HYD LTD at $30,635. This put the '09 FWD FEH Limited W/Nav MSRP at $33,725 ($30635 + $2395 + $695 shipping), plus tax and tag. On the GH site, one person posted his '09 AWD FEH order retailed for $32,385 plus $695 shipping. I think people, including dealerships are looking at the first page thinking the Navigation system is included, and not an option that adds $2395 to the MSRP. This would put the '09 AWD FEH Limited W/Nav at a MSRP at $35,475 plus tax and tag. If the dealerships are just ordering the FTO 8 package, I hope the computer adds the navigation 60N option and gives the right MSRP amount.

The way I read the ordering guide, you must include the navigation system to have a "Fast Turn Order" (FTO) 8 package. I also wonder if you don't include the navigation system on the limited package, you cannot order a FTO 8 and it might have a delayed built date over the FTO 8 package. Anyone?

So basically the Navigation option and some other comforts are only available on the limited. Well I'm a little happy i ordered my 08 xlt with nav on a 3yr lease last week :)

The "Fast Turn Order" page information seems to be confusing a lot of people so far. The Navigation System is available as an option only on the Escape Limited or Hybrid series as noted on page seven of the 2009 Escape Order Guide. I'll post additional information shortly which may help provide other information and clarify some issues.

Gary... I just got back from my Ford store in MA and wanted to reply to your message ASAP. Let me see if I can help clarify the new Escape Order Guide, how to best use it with the "Fast Turn Orders" provision and how the CONCEPS vehicle ordering system handles the new order system as to prices and options.

The new "Fast Turn Orders" were designed to help Dealers stock vehicles with the most desirable options on each series that also have the best "Turn" or sales rate. Basically, this is to help avoid problems with having "odd ball" vehicles with least or less desirable options that will prevent the vehicle from selling within a reasonable time. The order system is based on a "Turn & Earn" basis in that the more vehicles a Dealer sells in a period of time, the more and quicker the Dealer will earn additional allocation for future scheduling.

I would recommend that everyone other than Dealership personnel IGNORE the "Fast Turn Orders" to avoid confusion but I'll explain them here in the interest of full disclosure. The options listed in the "FTO Package Contents" for each FTO Package Code are still priced separately as in the past. A Dealer using the FTO's will enter the FTO Package Code in CONCEPS and the CONCEPS order system will add and price the FTO Package Contents as separate options the same as if the individual options were added to the order in the past.

For example, FTO 8 on a 2009 Escape Hybrid Limited includes the Navigation System. Ordering the vehicle using the FTO 8 Package Code (688) automatically adds the Navigation System to the order along with the $2,395 price. However, it is not necessary to order the Hybrid Limited series in order to get the Navigation System. If you look on Page #7 of the Order Guide you'll see that the Nanigation System is also available as an option on a regular (non-Limited) Escape Limited.

To put it simply, the FTO packages add and price the FTO content after which the Dealer can add any other options desired on the series.

I hope this helps everyone better understand the new Order Guide format. If I can be of any further assistance please let me know and I'll be only too happy to answer any questions that I can.

Thanks for clearing it up, I am back to my "I wish i waited a few months" mode lol

The good thing is that because of the 2009 upgrades, I was able to get an extremely good price for the 08 xlt. $5000 below and a free sirius :)

Thanks for the clarification Joe

It is important for those ordering a $30,000 vehicle understand what their ordering, the price etc. With your help with providing the Ford Escape Ordering Guide and instructions, I feel comfortable that I ordered what I wanted and with the price. My order was confirmed this afternoon and I can't wait till it arrives. I'm sure I speak for many by saying you are a big help here on Blue Oval. Thanks again!

I guess you could call me a loyal Ford customer Joe. Today ABC news ask me for a story on me Hypermiling my '05 Ford Escape Hybrid. Now that gas prices have almost reached $4 a gallon, the media see the public looking for ways to cut fuel cost. I've developed some driving techniques driving my FEH that allowed me to win a 1st place at the Hybridfest MPG Challenge last July. I took Ford's stock SUV for a 26 mile round trip through Madison WI and averaged 61.8mpg. ABC news is going to film me from my FEH back seat tomorrow driving around my home town here in Jupiter FL.

Gary, All,

Where did you get this pricing information? Can you share the base MSRP for the 09 Escape Hybrid (non-Limited)? Have you tryed to get the "Costco" pricing? This may save you some $.

Thanks!

Thanks!

Update: I contacted 4 Ford dealers in the Portland, Oregon area. One of them was able to give me pricing while others simply said they'd look into it or check back in May.

2009 Escape Hybrid 4WD (base model, no upgrades):

MSRP: 30,750, X-Plan: $28, 854

2008 Escape Hybrid 4WD (base no upgrades):

MSRP: $28,390, X-Plan: $26,947

Price difference between 2009 and 2008:

MSRP: $2,360 increase, X-Plan: $1,907 increase

The 2009 does offer some big improvements: new 2.5l engine, stability control, Sync standard, 110v outlet standard, satellite radio standard. The question is are these upgrades worth the extra ~$2k? Thoughts?

I would say that these are definitely worth the money. I was considering a 2008 but the Sync system alone was enough for me to hold out for a 2009. I ordered mine on the 18th and the pricing came out being only $1000 more than the similarly equipped 2008 that I had priced out the day before.

Prices for 2009 Escape Hybrid and traditional Escapes ....

I have some potentially new info for those of you who may be looking for 2009 Escape. This evening I went to my local Ford dealer (Portland, OR area). I was able to obtain full pricing info on the '09s. See the dealer print-outs attached.

I'm still debating between Hybrid and traditional Escapes. The dealer gave me pricing options for a number of options. The most friendly helpfull dealer I've ever dealt with, by the way (2-others said 09s are not available yet, 1-other quoted me MSRP +$2k for hybrids). Here are the prices:

2009 Base Models:

XLT, 4x2, 4-cyl ...........MSRP $23,425; X-Plan $22,214

XLT, 4x4, 4-cyl ...........MSRP $25,175; X-Plan $23,800

Hybrid, 4x2 ................MSRP $29,000; X-Plan $27,267

Hybrid, 4x4 ................MSRP $30,750; X-Plan $28,854

Hybrid Limited, 4x4 ....MSRP $33,080; X-Plan $30,966

The dealer thinks that realistically September would be the earliest that it could be delivered. They can take orders immediately.

I'm still debating between Hybrid and the 2.5l 4-cyl. Need to run the math on tax benefits vs. Hybrid price premium.

Can any existing Hybrid owners offer some advice here? are you happy with hybrid performance and MPG?

This is great information. Thank you for tracking it down. Any chance you could ask/obtain the same info for the Hybrid Limited, 4x2? It is listed in the ordering guide as an available configuration and I don't think I need AWD here in KY for the little/infrequent snow we get on our roads.

When calculating tax benefits, don't forget that there is a minimal tax you have to pay, and no deduction or credit can drop you below that amount (ATM). For many people, the full hybrid tax credit would indeed drop them below that minimum, and therefore, they can't get the entire credit.

I get around 32 to 33 MPG, which is about double I got on my Jeep Cherokee. Well, when I want performance, I drive the Mustang. :shift:

Gas prices just jumped up another $0.30/gal last night. :whipped:
