I'm expecting cars like the Focus, Corrola and the like to be come the new best sellers in the USA, replacing the Accord and Camry...

The Escort was the best selling car in NA for a long time till Gas prices came back down in the late 1980's and the Taurus took its spot.

That would make sense.

If that's the case, Ford's plan for a unified C2 world Focus would be coming at a good time, as well as their range of B-cars. Within 5 years, Ford will have the following:

Focus sedan

Focus coupe

Focus 3-door hatch

Focus 5-door hatch

Focus wagon

Fiesta sedan

Fiesta 3-door hatch

Fiesta 5-door hatch

Puma coupe

EcoSport small SUV

That represents a fairly attractive range of small cars to choose from in the United States, all of which could be very fuel efficient with the right powertrains. To that list, I wouldn't mind seeing a soft-top convertible, as well as some kind of small open-bed utility vehicle. Perhaps a Focus pickup conversion with the right grey bumpers would be a nice sub-Ranger utility vehicle.

Wrong the new vehicle will be called the Verve, and not the Fiesta thank god! I an interveiw with autoline Alan Mulally refered to it as the Verve on Feb. 3 08' All these clips are good but the first one is where he adresses the Verve!

DEARBORN, Feb. 15, 2008 -- One Ford, indeed.

Ford of Europe is introducing the all-new Fiesta at the Geneva Motor Show March 6–16 (press preview March 4), and Ford is announcing that Fiesta is the name for the company's B-car worldwide.

I'm not altogether surprised at the fact that the company is down, due to the multitude of information everywhere about our current economic slide.

However, to:

Ford Fusion (+12.1%), Focus (+10.6%), Edge (+45.9%), and Ranger (+27%)...

Mercury Mariner (+11.3%)...

Lincoln MKZ (+56%) and MKX (+22%)...

... and who saw the Volvo S80 (+119%) coming?

The interview was filmed several months ago but was released in two parts on Autoline Detroit.

Ford's CEO used the name Verve because Ford didn't settle on a official name at that time of the interview.

Fuel efficient Ranger pick-up sales up 27% shame it will going soon.

I'm puzzled. I really think the Ranger should get the same type of redo as the current Focus. It would stay inexpensive get excellent gas mileage and will save the costs associated with a redo. Toss some tech at it like the Sync and its sales should continue to rise. Even if a hybrid powertrain was added it would still sticker at about $20K.

This is the perfect truck for the current Economy just like the Focus is the perfect car. I think Ford will reconsider or shortly introduce a replacement.

My notes:

- Glad to see the Fusion pushing a little more volume. I really hope that changes made to the CD3s push them up over the crest of the 'sales hill'

- Focus....WOW!

- Escape is flat, cant help but wonder what we will be looking at later this year (and the same time next year) after the powertrain updates. Would be nice if Ford could churn out a few more hybrid versions

Even with the XF on the horizon, Jag is a :titanic:

Ford never said that the Ranger is dead ;)

They never said what their plans are after its plant closes ...

Ranger got a one year reprieve to allow Ford time to prepare a replacement.

As to what exactly that replacement is, nobody seems 100% sure. The current strongest candidate is the Ford F-100, Ford of North America's in-house project, as well as its Ford Bronco companion. Think smaller F-150 in size and structure.

Then there's Project T6, which is the global small pickup truck replacement for the current global Ranger. Smaller than the F-100.

I have a sneaking suspicion we'll see both on sale here within 3 years.

you forget one more - Transit Connect. For the use the Ranger actually sees - the TC is a perfect replacement
