01FOCI
One person was killed Sunday morning during a three-vehicle crash southbound on Interstate 5 at the Turner interchange south of Salem. Area highways were icy at the time of the crash, and the icy condition was a contributing factor in this fatal crash. On February 5, 2006 at approximately 7:00 a.m., a 1996 Nissan pickup driven by LUIS RAMOS LEMUS, age 35, from Salem, had stopped on the inside shoulder of the southbound lanes near milepost 248. A southbound 1996 Chevrolet Geo four-door driven by JULIA HERNANDEZ PALAFOX, age 30, from Salem, sideswiped the right side of the Nissan pickup. The Chevrolet Geo then spun around coming to a stop sideways in the center southbound lane with the passenger side facing southbound traffic. A 2005 Ford F350 pickup towing a travel trailer was southbound in the center lane and unable to stop before crashing into the passenger side of the Chevrolet Geo. After the initial impact, the Ford pickup pushed the Chevrolet Geo to the point of rest in the southbound right lane. JULIA HERNANDEZ PALAFOX was pronounced deceased at the scene. She was using safety restraints. The driver of the Ford pickup, JEFFERY P. ALLSTOTT, age 56, from Troutdale, was reportedly not injured. RAMOS LEMUS was believed to not be injured. I think we need to ban small cars! Ok, just kidding...

ANTAUS
The "Blocker Beam" worked...maybe?
swenson88
Huh. I wonder what the driver of the Prizm actually died of, the driver's side of the little car looks okay. Maybe it was a neck injury or something from the force, maybe hit her head on the driver's window. If there had been anyone in the passenger seat they would have been mashed. 01FOCI
The "Blocker Beam" worked...maybe? I thought the blockerbeam was to prevent cars from going underneith. Therefore it probably caused more force to be transfered to the side of the geo in this instance. Is'nt the prism a rebadged toyota corolla? BORG
This is a strange topic, somebody died but look at how well the big Ford truck faired in the accident. In any case, I'm not offended, just a little confused by my feelings about it I wonder what you do with a vehicle that essentially killed another person in an accident. I'm sure it will be repaired and kept in service, but as the owner I think I would rather get rid of the vehicle.

01FOCI
You think somebody dying in an auto accident is funny? No not at all, but we always here how "BIG" vehicles are dangerous so I thought I why not state that small cars are dangerous and ban them, if everyone drove a "big" vehicle we would all be safe! The saftey nazi's look at this and see more "proof" to prop up there ego's and lobby against evil trucks and the such.
